Court Backs Measure To Ban Gay Marriage

This just in. The California Supreme Court has rejected a bid to remove a measure from the November ballot which will again ban same-sex marriage. The court refused to comment on the unanimous decision but refused to hear the legal challenge, filed last month by civil rights groups. The groups argued the ballot measure is legally flawed and thus should not be put up for vote. This pretty much guarantees the decision will be left up to the voters, which if passed, would amend the state Constitution to confine marriage to a union between a man and a woman. This would reverse the state Supreme Court’s earlier decision to allow gay marriage as they determined it unconstitutional to treat gay and lesbian couples differently than heterosexual couples.
