Vegan Applauds McD’s - Asks For Support

As you may or may not know, a group who identifies themselves as the American Family Association (AFA), and who has in many cases been referred to as the American Fascist Association, has , not so successfully, started a boycott against one of or national landmarks, McDonalds. That’s right, and not because their kids or obese either. It’s because McDonald’s Corporation refuses to cave into there request to hate the GLBT community. Now hate is a strong word, and I don’t use it often, and only with caution, but why else would the AFA object to a $20,000 donation to the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce? AFA’s Spokeshater Buddy Smith said, “McDonald’s needs to project a pro-family philosophy. They need to line up their associations with that message and drop their membership in the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber.” Now this group, the AFA, has also claimed to have drastic impacts on corporations with previous boycotts. One such boycott being against Ford (just look it up on the internet, their inflated and false story is all over) so it come as no surprise they are trying to bully McDonald’s. Well, I say bully to them. There’s a video or 100 on youtube.com that shows people talking about points held from both sides (you need to be aware of this too). If you find the one showing the actual AFA rally and McDonald’s corporate headquarters, you’ll notice the lack of diversity (except the old lady in the walker and the younger kids) and the lack of attendees. Whether the AFA has over 2 million members as they claim or not, and whether these absolutely ridiculous boycotts work or NOT, we need to be aware. Aware that the hate and fear coming from the untolerating bigots of the so called religious right (nothing religious or right about it) is alive and well. Now more than ever we need to do something about it. I’m not necessarily talking about fighting fire with fire, or flame with flame (I think that’s funny). We as a community can show great strength by staying positive in our actions. Do something positive for those who support our community. Look, I’m a vegan, but I also know McDonalds has apple slices and OJ for breakfast, so I go there almost every morning now. I also know if you absolutely don’t want to eat there, send them an email to say thank you!
