Spotlight on Openly Gay Olympian Mark Tewksbury
August 19, 2008 by James Hipps
During Mark Tewksbury’s swimming analysis on Saturday night, CBC host Ron MacLean raised the subject of Tewksbury’s homosexuality.
Tewksbury came out after Barcelona in 1992, where he won a gold medal in the 100-metre backstroke, and he is openly gay.
Still, the subject seemed unrelated to the discussion of swimming, although, MacLean, by referencing Tewksbury’s book Inside Out: Straight Talk From A Gay Jock, was attempting to link acceptance from a coach, in Tewksbury’s case Debbie Muir, to success.
