Ron Martlett Looks to Oust Homophobic Sally Kern

Ron Marlett thought about running against state Rep. Sally Kern before her anti-gay were blasted all over the internet, but those very comments are what convinced him to do so.

Marlett, who is currently a social worker at Community Pathways Unlimited, stated that he considered opposing the Republican, Sally Kern from Oklahoma City early in the year because it took her three weeks to respond to a question he had about renewing his social worker’s license.

Then two weeks after Kern’s comments about homosexuality were posted on YouTube, the Democrat, announced he would run against her. “I just decided at that point I had to run,” he said.

Earlier this year in a statement made to an Oklahoma City Republican club, Kern said the gay and lesbian community is a cancer destroying the nation and homosexuality is “the biggest threat our nation has, even more so than terrorism or Islam.” “The homosexual agenda is destroying this nation; it’s just a fact,” Kern said in the YouTube clip.

Marlett has responded, “I’ve yet to knock a door where people have said, ‘Ron, we’re worried to death about the gay agenda,’ I’ve not knocked one door where anyone has said that, so her views seem to be way out of touch with what most people think.”

Kern however is under the impression her anti-gay sentiment is the majority thought in her district. “People just thank me for my stand and appreciate my being willing to stand for what’s right,” she said.

Kern has stated that her comments weren’t against gays but were directed at the strategy of gay rights supporters to defeat conservative candidates. Kern ran unopposed two years ago when she sought a second term.
