Computer Hackers Mess with Gay Marriage Sites

According to Wall Street Journal:

Opponents of California’s proposed ban on gay marriage claim their Web site was shut down by a coordinated computer attack, amid rising tensions over one of the nation’s most controversial ballot measures.

The Web site against California’s Proposition 8 had to be taken down for several hours Wednesday night, following the alleged “denial of service” attack. Officials of the campaign said Thursday they had complained to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Secret Service about the incident.

“I’m sure we’ll hear a lot of denials today from the Prop 8 campaign, but this is clearly an orchestrated attempt to tear down what has become one of the largest grass-roots movements in California electoral history,” said Patrick Guerriero, campaign director of No on Prop 8.

Officials of Protect Marriage, a group leading the Yes on 8 campaign, say they had nothing to do with the attack, if in fact there was one. “There’s so much traffic on the Internet, everybody’s Web site is having difficulty at different times,” said spokeswoman Sonja Eddings Brown.
