Michigan House Passes Hate-Crime Legislation

The Michigan House has passed a package of two bills to expand the state’s ethnic intimidation act. Under House Bills 6340 and 6341, bias motivated crimes would be subject to more severe punishments, including extended prison time and upgrading of misdemeanor criminal acts to felonies. The bills now move on to the state Senate for a vote.
