Palin’s Church Burns – Fingers Point at GLBT’s
December 15, 2008 by James Hipps
According to the AP, and posted on StarTribune.com, the one time vice-presidential nominee, and governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin’s church was badly damaged by a fire Friday night. Shortly thereafter, Palin apologized if the blaze was connected to “undeserved negative attention” from her failed campaign.
The damages to the Wasilla Bible Church have been estimated at $1 million and no one was injured in the fire.
The Wasilla fire chief said the blaze was being investigated for possible arson but he didn’t know of any recent threats to the church. Authorities also stated they didn’t know whether Palin’s connection to the church was relevant.
The Pastor of the church, Larry Kroon wouldn’t comment on if the church had received any recent threats. “There are so many variables,” he said. “I don’t want to comment in that direction.”
According to the AP article;
The 1,000-member evangelical church was the subject of intense scrutiny after Palin was named John McCain’s running mate. Early in Palin’s campaign, the church was criticized for promoting in a Sunday bulletin a Focus on the Family “Love Won Out Conference” in Anchorage. The conference promised to “help men and women dissatisfied with living homosexually understand that same-sex attractions can be overcome.”
I would like to point out the obvious that this is an extreme case of irresponsible reporting as the only reason for mentioning this information would be an attempt to draw a predetermined conclusion the LGBT community was somehow responsible for the fire. I will be submitting a letter to the editor of this post and would urge you to do the same.
