did not all of the donor information as required by state law. The group failed to get the occupations of the most of those who contributed to the campaign.
In a statement Monday however, Joe Kanefield, the state’s top election official said that the poor wording of the law allows them to get away without obtaining that information. He added they are not required to give back the donations or pay a fine for not providing complete information.
The complaint came from the fact that a review of the public reports filed by the “Yes for Marriage” campaign only has the occupations listed for only about 20% of the contributors. This information is supposed to be made public. The campaign managed to collect more than $7.7 million, mostly from individuals identified only by name and address.
