Burris Supports Separate But Equal

Burris Supports Separate But Equal

Speaking at Chicago’s Gay Pride, Senator Roland Burris declared his support for civil unions but said marriage is for “perpetuation of the species.”

According to local Chicago reports, LGBT men and women wearing t-shirts that read “Fight for Marriage Equality” stood near Senator Burris, as he spoke, but the senator said he’s not ready to endorse marriage for LGBT citizens.

“My concept of marriage is a male and a female for the perpetuation of the species, for children to be born and identify the bloodline and the heritage. But I’m pretty sure, as things are moving along, that that will probably change.”

I am curious if Burris would also support separate but equal when it comes to rights for other minorities.  I would also pose this simple question to Burris; If marriage is for pro-creation, then why are those past childbearing years, or those who are unable to conceive or produce children allowed to marry?  Procreation is NOT a prerequisite for “straight” marriage, so why should it be for “gay” marriage?
