Monument Vandalized at SF Pride Event

The memorial to gay Holocaust victims was vandalized this weekend during San Francisco’s 39th annual Gay Pride event.

Event organizers said the monument, an acre-wide triangle of pink tarps, was torched and ripped sometime early Sunday morning by vandals.

The 14-year-old monument has been placed on display every year since it was created.

Patrick Carney, a -co-founder of the monument stated:

“In 2009, if this can happen in San Francisco, it can happen anywhere. We have to be vigilant. There’s a lot of work to do.”
