Researchers at the University of Illinois at Chicago have received a $3 million federal grant from the National Institutes of Health to study lesbian health.
The study will be ongoing for five-years and will include data collected from over 600 adult lesbians and will take a close look at how excessive drinking is related to stressful experiences including discrimination based on sexual orientation.
Researcher Tonda Hughes, who has studied lesbian health issues for over 20 years stated the expected outcome of the study’s findings could be of great value in the development of alcohol abuse prevention programs.
