Not Being Able to “Accept” Is the Problem

September 6, 2009 by James Hipps

There’s a post on examiner.com by Michael Stone entitled: Obama Speaks to Kids, Right Wing Panics, which does a great job of pointing out the core or root of the problem with the Right Wing.  They “are  incapable of accepting Obama as their president.”

Below is an excerpt:

The hysteria is understandable only if one grasps the larger context of hysteria that has gripped a vocal minority of the population. A group of Americans, often referred to as the “right wing nuts”, are incapable of accepting Obama as their president. These are the people who alternate between calling Obama a “fascist” and a “socialist”, without understanding the meaning of the words they spew with such venom and hate.

Indeed, we have seen the right wing nuts at town hall meetings, bearing arms, thumping Bibles, wailing crocodile tears. They are at once an embarrassment and a worrisome threat to the vast silent majority of Americans who have no patience or stomach for the dramatics of the right wing nut.

He’s obviously identified “not being able to accept” as the problem, but what’s the cause?  I tend to believe in a majority of cases it’s racism.  We as Americans don’t like to consider ourselves as racist, but many white Americans are, and there is a strong tendency for racist to be Republican.

The Republicans who don’t want their kids to see the President speak are falling for the right wing hysteria that he’s going to tell them to let women have a choice when it comes to abortions, accept gay people, not to pray in school, and when they get old enough, vote for equality and health care. Not that those would be harmful for kids to hear, but that is NOT what it’s about…THESE PEOPLE WHO DON’T WANT THEIR KIDS TO LISTEN TO THE PRESIDENT ARE STUPID, IGNORANT AND WORST OF ALL…RACIST!

What are your thoughts on the cause?

I agree. I really didn’t want to agree – in fact I’ve spend the better part of the spring and summer trying to convince myself that it ISN’T racism. But I can find no other rational reasons. And I’m really disappointed.

“What are your thoughts on the cause?”

How can I even answer that- the word PATHETIC comes to mind.

We all know if it was Dubya talking, the right wing fanatics would be tooting their horns while our kiddies got to listen to the president make up words and babble stupidly. No one screwed up the American language like Dubya did!

I agree..I think they are mad because he is black and because he wants change for America, where hate doesn’t rule. They never even gave the man a chance.

It’s really very childish and sad at this point, it’s almost 2010 and people are still obsessed with the color of a mans skin.

Compare what we have now to what we had a year ago, Dubya couldn’t even talk correctly, he was laughed at over and over again for his inability to put words into a proper sentence!

Our President is an intelligent man and he’s done more work in the few months he’s been President than Dubya did in 8 LONG years!

To the right wing fanatics, just STOP the BS Express train before it runs away with all of us, it’s time to grow up and realize that skin color is just that, the color of skin and nothing more. Racism is no longer in fashion, please let it be a tragedy of the past and just LEAVE IT THERE! Racism has no place in our society, we’re all so mixed as it is.
