Women Affected More by DADT
October 8, 2009 by James Hipps
Researchers at the University of California have obtained Pentagon statistics which show that women were discharged at a rate up to three times more then males under the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell policy”.
All branches of the military dismissed disproportionate numbers of female service members last year, but the majority of dismissals happened to women serving in the Air Force, where a majority of those let go under the policy were female, even though women only represent about 20 % of the entire Air Force personnel.
Across the board, approximately one-third of the over 600 people discharged because of the policy were female, which is considered disproportionate as women only account for 15 % of active and reserve duty servicemembers.
