Dobson Departs Focus on the Family – A Generation of Hate and Bigotry

According to a post on Advocate.com:

Focus on the Family founder James C. Dobson will end his 32-year tenure as the voice of the conservative Christian ministry at the end of February, the Colorado-based nonprofit announced on Friday.

Dobson has been gradually cutting ties with the organization. In 2003, Dobson stepped down as Focus on the Family’s president, and last February Dobson left the ministry’s board of directors.

Over the years, Dobson has become a key advocate for the religious right, promoting fierce opposition to abortion, gay rights, pornography, and President Barack Obama’s candidacy.

Outwardly, this appears to be a great day for the LGBT community, as many of you know, James Dobson (living proof of Satan) has long been known for jumping on the anti-gay bandwagon in interest of financial gain.  Yes, over the years, Dobson has collected hudred of millions of tax-expempt dollars on spreading the word he could save the world from the impending ‘gay agenda’.

But as his organization has fallen short of their financial goals (blamed mostly on the recession instead of declining interest in hating the gays) and as he has hit 73 years of age, Dobson has stepped down as president earlier this year and now is headed towards retirement.

The good news, Dobson represents a generation of hate.  Dobson was in his 20’s during the Civil Rights movement and although there are many supporters of equality in their 70’s, if you look historically at the people responsible for oppression and discrimination, you’ll find Dobson fits right in.  A  white, privileged, theocrat who has earned a great living off fueling the fears and ignorance of others.

So, as I value eveyones right to speak freely, I can’t say it bothers me to see this one go away.  Yes he has people eager to step into his shoes, but the fact remains, he represents a demongraphic section of this nation that has not typically been supporters of equality for anyone, other than those that look just like him.

Bon Voyage!

Blech. Hope he dies a long, painful death of some obscure disease that only his god can cure.
