Racist Louisana Justice of Peace Resigns
November 5, 2009 by James Hipps
None to soon, but Keith Bardwell, the racist Louisiana justice of the peace who wouldn’t marry an interracial couple because of the horrible things that biracial kids have to endure has finally made the only right decision he’s made in a while and has resigned.
Bardwell embarrassed the state of Louisiana in October and drew national attention for his misdeeds, better late than never, he officially resigned from his elected post at the Louisiana secretary of state’s office on Tuesday.
The couple in question, Beth Humphrey and Terence McKay, didn’t let Bardwell’s racist views stand in their way. Love prevailed and their wedding ceremony was performed by another justice of the peace.
When asked about his denial of marriage to an interracial couple, Bardwell stated, defended his racism by stating:
“I would probably do the same thing again. I found out I can’t be a justice of the peace and have a conscience.”
Blatant racism and proud of it…the American way!

“I would probably do the same thing again. I found out I can’t be a justice of the peace and have a conscience.”
What drugs is this loser on?
I’m just curious, I understand he’s not a “real” judge (ie: not overseeing criminal cases), but even so, don’t his duties as a justice of the peace mean that he should be working from the LAW and not from his CONSCIENCE?
The one worry this brings up is, just how many others out there are in positions analogous to his, and under the mistaken belief that their “conscience” and not the LAW should be their guiding factor?

That would be a whole lot of people. Just look at NOM. They base their fight against marriage equality on their personal religious beliefs, nothing else. Then they turn and say we’re trying to force our “lifestyle” on to everyone else. Irony and hypocrisy. Since when should anyone let their personal religious beliefs interfere with the lives of others, and more importantly, how does my marriage interfere with theirs…it doesn’t. It’s amazing this is even an issue. It’s time for the government to put aside the Bush era ideology that Christians and their beliefs should run government and get back to the basic principle of separation of church and state.
Makes me ill really!
[...] they were being punished by God…therefore, segregation was God’s command. Even today, with the recent racial bigotry in Louisiana, interracial marriage was not condoned, yet condemned by the world of God…or the Bible, which was [...]
Good. Another bigot out of office.
