Good interview, thanks for providing it, Mr. Hipps.
I’m an agnostic who agrees with some of the remarks that Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens and Bill Maher have had to say about religion, but I also agree with what Mr. Schaeffer has to say about extremism among some atheists and the division that it causes. I firmly believe religious fundamentalism, Christian, Jewish, Muslim, and yes, Atheist, is a serious danger to democracy, freedom, and egalitarian principles.
I’d like to add that Mr. Schaeffer was quite right to point out that Christians in the past have both supported and opposed segregation in the name of religion. And, ironically, perhaps appropriately so, Christians today both support and oppose tolerance, acceptance, and legal equality for homosexuals on religious grounds. We in the homosexual community should keep this in mind.
I really appreciate how clear Mr. Schaeffer is on issues of religion, politics, morality and how these do and should interact.
