GOP’ers Try, But Still Get it Wrong
December 26, 2009 by James Hipps
Five Republican House members are urging the president of Uganda to oppose a proposed law that would impose the death penalty for some gay Ugandans.
The lawmakers say they are all men of faith, and that the bill is antithetical to the Christian belief of “inherent dignity and worth” of all people. The congressmen used a Tuesday letter to urge President Yoweri Museveni to stop the bill from becoming law.
The bill would mandate a death sentence for active homosexuals living with HIV or in cases of same-sex rape. Anyone convicted of a homosexual act faces life imprisonment.
The letter was signed by Reps. Frank Wolf of Virginia, Chris Smith of New Jersey, Joe Pitts of Pennsylvania, Trent Franks of Arizona and Anh “Joseph” Cao of Louisiana.
On a side note, as important as it is for all U.S. citizens, regardless of political affiliation to speak out against the criminalization of LGBT persons, it’s also very interesting that the Republicans mentioned above us their “Christian” faith to denounce Uganda’s proposed law.
This is a major problem within the Republican party, this isn’t about Christianity, it’s not about faith, religion or church. This is an issue of human rights. LGBT persons are human, and Christianity should not be the determining factor or any legislation. This is simply about what’s right, which weather you’re Christian or Taoist, discrimination against or the criminalization of sexuality is wrong.
My message to the Republicans who signed this letter, thank you, but put down the Bible and pick up your cohunes. Do what’s right, not what’s “Christian”.

Do what’s right, not what’s “Christian”.
Couldn’t have said that better myself.
Amen
These types bristle at the words secular and humanity or put together they almost barf a little in their mouths “secular humanist”. They are nothing but religious lapdogs.
