The micro blogging social networking site Twitter is sure getting a lot of praise and publicity at the moment, making it the most popular of all the social networking platforms of the moment, so says GayAgenda.com’s Jason Shaw.
Twitter used to help land plane, reports the New York Daily News, telling the story of how twitter users bombarded the US Air force with tweets to let a Medecines San Frontieres relief flight land in Haiti. NY Daily News.
Wyclef Jean has already raised more than a million dollars for his Haiti charity after appealing for help on Twitter. BBC. Leading charity Disasters Emergency Committee praised the site, along with other networking sites have reach a far greater audience in a much shorter time than other more traditional media methods and has been responsible for raising £8 million so for here in the UK for the Haiti relief effort.
Aston Kutcher tweeted from the Golden Globes to over a million of his followers that host Brit comic Ricky Gervais was having more than a few beers backstage during the show! During which he poked fun at Mel Gibson’s drinking! Ricky of course quit twitter after less than a month of tweeting, claiming he just didn’t get it!
There has been the first Twitter birth as told by the legendary Huffington Post. And just like an episode of ER there is birth and death in the same show, there’s also been the first Twitter murder, NY Daily News again has the story, along with hundreds of others that pick the story up.
Gay Marriage Watch tweets on a daily basis on all the news from California and from around the States on the progress, or not as the case may be, of the gay marriage campaign.
There’s also the story of Paul Chambers, who tweeted about his local airport being closed due to the snow recently here in the UK, he wrote “Robin Hood airport is closed, You’ve got a week and a bit to get your shit together, otherwise I’m blowing the airport sky high!!” This was just a joke to his friends!
Unfortunately for Mr Chambers, the police didn’t see the funny side. A week after posting the message he was arrested under the Terrorism Act and questioned for almost seven hours by detectives who interpreted his post as a security threat. “I would never have thought, in a thousand years, that any of this would have happened because of a Twitter post,” He said!
The rise and rise of the social networking site seems to know no bounds and shows no sign of stopping or even slowing. It is a phenomena of the age! But worry not if your not on the bandwagon yet, if your not all tweeted up, for coming soon to GayAgenda.com is Jason Shaw’s exclusive twitter special! So keep ya eyes open for that!
