Ashamed to be GOP? You Should Be!

Ashamed to be GOP? You Should Be!

Perhaps Meghan McCain, a member of the Republican party and the daughter of John McCain, campaigning for change within the Republican party isn’t exactly what the doctor needs to order when it comes to curing homophobia amongst the ranks of the GOP. As great as it is to see a YOUNG, straight Republicans speaking out for equality and inclusion for the LGBT community, it doesn’t look as though her efforts are exactly paying off.

According to a nationwide Daily Kos/Research 2000 Poll, which was conducted between January 20, 2010 and January 31, 2010, it doesn’t look as though the Republican party is ready to loosen up on their Draconian platform built upon hate, bigotry and intolerance.

Some of the questions asked of those surveyed didn’t really leave me surprised with the responses.  Questions such as “Should Barack Obama be impeached, or not?” and “Do you think Barack Obama is a socialist?” Yielded the expected responses. However, when it came to questions about LGBT issues, I was quite as ready to swallow the pill given…especially when you look at the age demographic and notice the younger Republicans don’t appear to be changing their attitudes. The other sad fact of this survey, the questions asked such as “Is Obama a Socialist” have no validity…the question, or answers perhaps, are baseless. Is this the rhetoric of FOX news taking hold?

The following is a summary of the questions and the responses asked of the Republicans surveyed.

The issue of marriage, perhaps that doesn’t surprise me quite as much. The younger Republicans have had lies shoved down their throats since birth about how this is a “moral” issue. However, the question about whether or not openly gay and lesbian teacher should be allowed to teach in public schools…well, the responses left me ALMOST speechless. And the worst part of this…there isn’t almost no variation in ideology when broken down into age brackets, which clearly demonstrates the “younger generation” of Republicans are NOT changing their attitudes.

No wonder the Republican’s fought so hard against hate-crimes legislation. No wonder they’re falling all over themselves trying to keep discrimination legal. The proof is in the pudding so to say, and it looks as though my fellow “Republican” Americans are holding on tight to their hate and bigotry. Perhaps after President Obama won the election, it’s the only thing they have left to hold on to?

Don’t know what we would have done withoutcha doncha know.

It’s a good thing you’re working for positive change from the INSIDE.

You’re either a scam or a dismal failure. Either way, it’s time for you to admit defeat and stop supporting these assholes.

You think it is embarassing to be GOP right now, just wait 12 months. The truth will leak out.

The republican party has been taken over by the social conservatives, though they have had a home there for a long time. The following is not an apology or endorsement in any way, but rather an illustration of how far they have devolved. From former AZ senator, presidential candidate, conservative republican Barry Goldwater in 1993 in a Washington Post letter opposing DADT.

“The conservative movement, to which I subscribe, has as one of its basic tenets the belief that government should stay out of people’s private lives. Government governs best when it governs least – and stays out of the impossible task of legislating morality. But legislating someone’s version of morality is exactly what we do by perpetuating discrimination against gays.”
