Well what a torture that was to watch that whole CBS report. I was 19 when that was aired and I didn’t see it then and had no idea that such a thing was ever on TV. I am cerainly glad I never saw it because I had no idea that people were going to jail for 60 years just for being gay.
Yes everything was hidden in those days and it was a horrible way to live. Thank God that this notion that homosexuality is a mental illness has amost disappeared from the United States.
But one thing I learned long ago was that just because you are living in a period of relative acceptance doesn’t mean that it cannot revert to barbaric attitudes and the witch hunts could begin again. The homosexual must be eternally vigilant that the madness portrayed by CBS never comes about agian. And don’t scoff. It could happen. Just take a look at Uganda today where the death sentence is contemplated or the attitude of Sharia Islam, which would hang you or stone you to death.
I had to laugh at the pompous ass Doctor of Psychology who said that homosexuality had reach “epidemiologic”proportions. Hillarious. He meant epidemic proportions, but for someone teaching Medical students he should havenwon the correct word.
