Right Wing Lunacy From Around the Blogosphere

Ahhh, there’s always so much love coming from those conservative “Christian” folks out there…you know, honing their “Christ-like” skills of love, acceptance, helping your neighbor sort of thing…that is until it comes down to the satanic masses of the LGBT community.
It never ceases to amaze me what these tax-exempt organizations manage to conjure up when it comes to those of us who are the abominations of the world, choosing to live a lifestyle that goes against God, nature and man.
Two of my favorite sites, SistersTalk and AmericaBlog have great post (as usual) about such topics. However, there are a couple I really want to share as they both do a great job of nailing it.
The first, is from SistersTalk, again one of my favorite sites, and it addresses the religious right’s efforts to repeal marriage equality in Maine, and just how low those good Christian folks will stoop to make that happen. According to SistersTalk:
Stand for Marriage Maine, a group campaigning to revoke gay marriage rights in Maine, has launched a deceitful Google Adwords campaign that suggests that same-sex marriage rights in Maine will result in homosexuality being taught in public schools. Lies. Lies. Filthy lies.
Maine’s Attorney General already stated that heterosexual marriage isn’t currently part of any Maine public school curriculum so it’s untrue that gay marriage would sneak its way into any public school curriculum either.
If pimpin’ young, seemingly innocent, white children in a deceitful, hateful and manipulative anti-gay marriage campaign isn’t bad enough, the rabid anti-gay winguts have stooped to using a Black female in their landing page image.

And then, over at AmericaBlog, another one of my fav’s, there’s a great post about how the religious right has the audacity to demand that large companies stop advertising during TV shows that promote that dreaded homosexual agenda. According to that post:
What a weird thing to demand. But that’s what the American Family Association is now doing. They’re demanding that Mars (parent company of Snickers), Domino’s and Ikea stop advertising on ABCs TV show “Modern Family” because – get this – a gay couple adopts a child.
It gets even funnier. AFA also demands the ads be pulled because in the show a woman and her mother have “a dysfunctional relationship with high tension and negativity.” Yeah, that’s not reality.
I write this to highlight just how bigoted the religious right really is. They’re demanding that no one advertise on a TV show because a gay couples adopts a child? Because the show had the audacity to show an adult who has a tense relationship with her mother? Are they nuts?

So there you have it. See, just like I said, amazing…not surprising, yet simply amazing. What saddens me most…is knowing there is a population of people in this country that obviously have nothing better to do with their lives than try to control the lives of others. These aren’t selfless acts of promoting world peace. These aren’t attempts to help people in need, these are blatant acts of discrimination and oppression which unfortunately bring in a great deal of tax-exempt money to support lavish lifestyles. The anti-gay movement has become a cash cow, feeding on the fears of those who don’t have the ability to think for themselves and have bought into their own fears and ignorance, allowing others to dictate what flavor of Kool-Aid they’ll be drinking.
Florida’s GOP Tries for Youth Vote at Orlando Conference

What do you get when you cross a dethroned beauty queen, an Olympian-turned-reality-show wannabe and a pubescent pundit?
Maybe the start of the GOP’s revitalization. Or maybe a sign of how desperate Republicans are about stemming the departure of young voters from their fold.
Give the Florida Republican Party points for trying. The state GOP is mounting an aggressive campaign to court voters under 35, which culminates today in a conference encouraging young people to get involved in party politics.
More than 500 people have registered for the full-day event, though the main speakers have prompted head-scratching and snickers: Carrie Prejean, the former beauty queen best known for her opposition to same sex marriage; Bruce Jenner, the 1976 track and field gold medalist; and Jonathan Krohn, a 14-year-old prodigy who wowed a conservative conference in Washington earlier this year.
“I was shocked by the guests,” said Jordan Raynor, a Republican political consultant in Tampa. “I’m 23 years old and I guess I’m supposed to know whoever that guy [Jenner] is, but I’ve never heard of him.”

Homophobic “Nike” Ad Causes Big Stir
January 15, 2009 by Gay Agenda News Team · Leave a Comment
Reprinted by permission from Advocate.com:
A Nike print ad making the rounds on the Web this week is causing a stir for its homophobic copy, which reads, “The only thing worse than going to the ballet is going to the ballet to see your son.”
But unlike previous ads that raised eyebrows among gays for their homophobic content — à la that Snickers Super Bowl ad that featured two men appalled when they accidentally kiss after eating through the candy bar from opposite ends — this ad wasn’t commissioned by Nike.

Cyd Zeigler Jr. over at “Out Sports” had this to say about the controversy:
“I am so tired of hearing these complaints every time a company does something that mocks feminine behavior. Welcome to 2009: Feminine behavior DOES NOT EQUAL gay behavior!!”
My Reply to Cyd (who I think is a fantastic writer by the way):
Whether the ad was intended as a gay slur or not really isn’t the point. As a gay man, who grew up playing sports, and taking ballet classes, (even on into my college years as I actually minored in ballet) I will say I found the ad offensive. I’m not sure if I was offended because it was “anti-gay” but I am certain I was offended because it stereotypes males who participate in the “sport” of dance. I’m not sure if any of your readers (who like myself love sports) have ever taken ballet classes, but if they have, they would know there is a great degree of athleticism that goes into ballet. I would challenge anyone to an hour of ballet class and see how they hold up! Regardless of the ad’s intent, I am not pleased with the fact it perpetuates a stereotype. Taking the jabs and jibes, as I did constantly growing up, (for doing what I loved) perhaps made me a better and stronger man today, but I don’t wish that upon anyone. It takes an especially strong person to stand up and be man enough to admit they love ballet, but no matter how strong you are, physically and mentally, those very jabs can leave scares that no one should have to bear, as they would be avoidable if we didn’t condone this behavior.
What’s your opinion?
Men Are From Mars, Gay Men That Is
July 25, 2008 by James Hipps · Leave a Comment
A story by Out In America (OIA) has reported that The Human Rights Campaign Foundation, has convinced Mars Inc. to pull a controversial television advertisement for Snickers candy bars. The ad features a man whose appearance and actions – speed walking in an exaggerated manner – conjure up stereotypes of gay men. The man is then ridiculed by Mr. T who appears shooting Snickers bars out of a gun and admonishing the jogger to be a “real man.”
Now in this day and age, we certainly do not need advertisers to perpetuate gay stereotypes, nor do we need to propagate there is something wrong with being gay, so I applaud the HRC on this one (and the AFA thought they were the only ones who could get ads pulled).
But, watch for your self here, and see more of these ads here…….and here!
