Another McCain Joins the Battle for Equality

January 21, 2010 by James Hipps · Leave a Comment

It would appear that Cindy McCain, the mother of Republican gay rights advocate Meghan McCain and wife of former presidential candidate John McCain has joined the league of ‘mavericks’ when it comes to Republicans who support equality for LGBT Americans!  Maybe there’s hope of rescuing the GOP from the religious right yet?

According to Bouska.net:

Aligning yourself with the platform of gay marriage as a Republican still tends to be very stigmatic, but Cindy McCain wanted to participate in the campaign to show people that party doesn’t matter – marriage equality isn’t a Republican issue any more than it is a Democratic issue. It’s about human rights, and everybody being treated equally in the eyes of the law that runs and protects this country.

Meghan McCain was asked to be the keynote speaker at next month’s National Equality Week at George Washington University for her advocacy. In an odd bit of timing, a student Republican organization has become upset that she’ll be giving that speech — and have publicly voiced their disapproval over the ordeal.

Kardashians Speak OUT for Equality & Against H8

November 16, 2009 by James Hipps · Leave a Comment

It looks as though the Kardashian sisters have proven to be more than just television entertainment. They’ve joined Adam Bouska’s NOH8 campaign and have spoken out in favor of marriage equality. Whether you like celebs who speak up about political issues or not, it’s important to remember, all three serve as role models for a younger generation. I personally appreciate them using their voice in support of equality.

From Khloe’s blog:

Yesterday Kim, Kourtney and I did a shoot for the NOH8 campaign, which is a silent photo protest created with the goal of ultimately overturning Proposition 8. It was such an honor to have been asked to represent such an important and worthy cause and we were so excited at the opportunity.

The passage of Prop 8 was an event that I still have trouble stomaching, and I’m sure many of you feel the same way. All people, gay or straight, should be able to get married and share the same rights — love is love and I can’t really fathom how and why people disagree with that. If you don’t want to marry a person of the same sex, then don’t! It’s as simple as that. Everyone should at least be given the option. There should be no limitations as to who we choose to spend our lives with, and there should be no outside parties helping to make these decisions for us. If someone had told me that I couldn’t marry Lamar, I would have told them to go F themselves! LOL.

Real Housewives Stand Up Against H8

September 7, 2009 by James Hipps · Leave a Comment

The latest celebrity to join the ever-growing population for pro-gay marriage is Kim Zolciak, one of The Real Housewives of Atlanta. Kim posed ‘topless’ according to a tweet, but it really not the case. She’s covered up with some silver pasties duct tape but don’t be fooled, her girls are out and about. Straight off the NOH8 campaign website, Kim said:

“I feel so strongly about gay rights for several reasons, most importantly two of my family members are gay and my Uncle John was personally affected. He was denied rights that all heterosexual Americans are allowed. I believe that regardless of your gender you should be able to choose who your partner is, whether it be same-sex or not. I am all for people being happy. I posed topless to make a LOUD statement to help this wonderful cause. Thank you NOH8 Campaign!”

Meghan McCain Poses for NO H8 Campaign

July 6, 2009 by James Hipps · Leave a Comment

By now, if you don’t, you should know about Adam Bouska’s NO H8 campaign. He has received overwhelming support from people across the country including some who may be considered to be “high profile”.

My favorite one yet, Meghan McCain. That’s right, John “Maverick” McCain’s daughter holding an elephant to represent a segment of the GOP who stands for equality. I’m sure it’s a very small segment of the GOP, but nevertheless, it’s GREAT to see!

Make sure you check out Second Class Citizens for more pics and updates.

Jackass Steve-O Puckers Up & Says NOH8

July 3, 2009 by James Hipps · Leave a Comment

Steve-O, the star of the comedy “Jackass” has lent his support to equality for all people by participating in Adam Bouska’s new campaign for gay marriage advocates, NO H8, by putting on a wedding dress and sucking face with his heavyweight bodyguard.

The straight star agreed to help out the campaign because he’s opposes Prop 8 and believes any two consenting adults, regardless of sex or sexuality should have the legal right to marry in the state of California.

Steve-O said:

“I’ve always thought of California as this really awesome, liberal, great place… It’s such a let down that we seem to be the American capital for gay bashing.”
