McDonald’s surrenders! Boycott declared over
Family group says fast-food giant agrees not to promote ‘gay’ agenda
A corporate executive for McDonald’s restaurants who had been on board of directors of the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce has stepped down following a boycott of the chain organized by the pro-family American Family Association.
McDonald’s officials confirmed today to WND that Richard Ellis, who had been named to the “gay” chamber board after McDonald’s contributed $20,000 to the organization, “made a personal decision to step down” after he accepted a new position with McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada.
McDonald’s officials also told AFA the company has no plans to renew its membership in the special interest group when it expires in December.
“We appreciate the decision by McDonald’s to no longer support political activity by homosexual activist organizations,” AFA chairman Donald E. Wildmon said in a prepared statement.
In a statement GayAgenda Received from McDonald’s:
“McDonald’s stands by and supports our people. Diversity and inclusion are integral components of our brand and our heritage. We continue to have strong employee networks throughout our company and will continue to align our brand with individuals and organizations that share our belief in supporting our people and the communities we serve.”
I received a later email from McDonald’s Corportation stating they “are not a member of the AFA” and do not plan on joining.
Right Wing AFA Backer Linked to Anthrax Terrorism

Our friends at the American Family Association (AFA) have been linked to the accused anthrax scientist, Bruce Ivins. According to Right Wing Watch, Bruce and his wife were supporters of the AFA, and Ivins’ wife, who has not been named, ran an anti-abortion group. Evidently abortions are bad, but anthrax murder by mail is A-OK by the folks on the “right” side of the issue.
The Washington Post reported Thursday that the association with AFA was one of the many circumstantial items the FBI used in pinpointing Ivins as the the source of the September/October anthrax attacks in the U.S.

Right Wing is Telling Lies, Telling Sweet Little Lies - Again

We’ve reported recently about a new chain of lies issued by PFOX (Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays), claiming that gay youth are suicidal disease carriers.
In the first lie, PFOX misused the research of Gary Remafedi, M.D., M.P.H., on suicide attempts in gay youth to argue that people should not identify their sexual orientation at young ages. Remafedi’s findings do not support the contention that young people choose their identity or the timing of events in identity formation. Nor, Remefedi said, is there any evidence that the availability of Gay-Straight Alliances influences those developmental processes. GSAs help defend gay youth from bullying — a key to reducing suicide rates among youth generally. PFOX, on the other hand, seems committed to keeping gay youths closeted out of fear of their classmates, teachers, and family members.

Right Wing TVC’s Degree of Hate is Heating Up - Way Up

Say what you will about the Traditional Values Coalition, they refuse to tone-down or in any way moderate their militantly anti-gay agenda – here they are weighing in on the right-wing boycott of McDonalds, complete with an attack on Levi Strauss for ending its funding of the Boy Scouts:
“McDonald’s has partnered with the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC),” said TVC Executive Director Andrea Lafferty. “It also gave this activist group a $20,000 grant to support its efforts to influence corporate America.
“When my son bounds out of kindergarten at his school, a typical request is to go to ‘Old McDonald’s.’ It’s not about the cuisine, the first question he asks when we get there is which toy are they giving away that day. Now, we are settling for a lemonade at another restaurant because, as our son says aloud every time a McDonald’s commercial airs on television or as we drive past one, – ‘McDonald’s is bad,’” said Lafferty.

Religious Right Feeling The Heat - California or Bust!

Although its extremely doubtful the American Family Association’s founder, Donald E. Wildmon is willing to concede in the war against gays, the failure of proposition 8 (a constitution ban against same-sex marriage) would take some wind out of his sails.
“If we lose California, if they defeat the marriage amendment, I’m afraid that the culture war is over and Christians have lost,” the Evangelical leader told columnist Bill Berkowitz. ”I’ve never said that publicly until now,” Wildmon added, “but that’s just the reality of the fact.”
Again, Proposition 8, which will appear on the November California ballot, would reverse the effects of California’s Supreme Court’s May 15th ruling, which affirmed equal protection under the state’s constitution for same-sex couples, including equal access to civil marriage. Proposition 8 would take the exact same language from Proposition 22, voted into law in 2000 and invalidated by the ruling, and write it directly into the Constitution.
The ruling confirmed California as the second state to recognize equal marriage rights, and the first to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples who reside out of state.
“California is a big dam, holding back the flood” in the “culture wars,” Wildmon asserted, “and if you take down the dam in California, it’s going to flood 49 other states.”
Secularism, he said, “will replace Christianity as the foundation of our society,” leading to a “cultural decline.”
Its now more than ever the Human Rights Campaign needs your help. Show your support of Human Rights and support gay marriage any way possible! Its up to you to secure your rights and citizenship. Find out how you can help at hrc.org.
