Republicans Want Smaller Government Right? Not so Fast!

The same group who fough hard to make sure Florida’s state constitution was changed to ban same-sex marriages, is now concentrating their efforts on minimizing heterosexual divorce rates.

The Florida Family Policy Council has announced they will work with churches and organizations that helped them get the gay marriage ban approved on developing programs aimed at keeping married couples together.

At a Tuesday press conference, council president John Stemberger, largely criticized Florida’s no-fault divorce law, which allows either party to end a marriage for any reason.  The group wants to make it more difficult for married couples to file and legally obtain a divorce.

The group, which considers themselves largely conservative and Republican, are thrilled they won the right in November to tell people how they can live, so they are now continuing with to expand their efforts to dictate how more of the population can live.  As usual, this stance is hypocritical to the Republican platform of small government.

Gay Marriage Advocates Protest LDS in Mesa

December 1, 2008 by James Hipps · Leave a Comment

Advocates for equal right of all citizens, including gay marriage, were out in force when Mormons lit their massive Christmas displays at their temple in Mesa, Arizona.

The Mormon opposition to same-sex marriage and the passage of state constitutional amendments banning gay marriage in Arizona, California and Florida in the Nov. 4 election has spurred several protest against the LDS Church. Now, ironically enough, those who support inequality for gay persons are saying the demonstrations held by equal rights activist are a product of hate and bigotry. This from a church who urged members to donate money and vote for the gay marriage bans which strips equal rights from a minority group.

According to gay Mormon and protest organizer Bobby Parker,

”They’re shining their light, we’re shining ours.”

ImpACT Florida, a gay rights group that supports marriage equality for all Floridians says it will hold a demonstration outside Gov. Charlie Crist’s wedding.

A spokeswoman for Impact Florida says the group plans to demonstrate at Crist’s December wedding because he supported Amendment 2, which bans same-sex marriage in the state.

Crist plans to marry his fiancee Carole Rome on Dec. 12 at the First United Methodist Church in St. Petersburg.

Impact Florida says its gathering outside the church will be peaceful and that advocates will wear pink.

There have been several rumors about Crist’s sexual-orientation with speculation that he is gay as well.
