First, Before All Else, I Am an American!

In November, 1863 Abraham Lincoln spoke.
“Four score and seven years ago, our fathers brought forth a new nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal”
Well, in this country I am not created equal. I am an American, born and raised in Ohio, to American born parents who had American born parents. Why do I not have equal rights?
This is America? Right? We have to change the conversation! I’m not talking about “gay rights”. Those two words sounds like we want special rights. This an equal rights issue, not a religious issue. A strictly American issue. For those who say that the states should be in charge, why? This is an equal rights issue, which is Federal and nothing short of a Federal law is acceptable.
The next march on Washington should only include the following. American Flags, (no rainbows) I know I am a gay American, but first I am an American. My rights should be based on the fact that I am an American, not a gay American. There should be no mention of “gay marriage” or “same sex” marriage. The words “equal rights” should be everywhere. We should only have signs with the words “equal rights for all Americans”! We should have signs quoting the Bill of Rights and the Declaration of Independence..
All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny, to any person within its jurisdiction, the equal protection of the laws.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
Fact: The first soldier injured in the Iraq war was gay, the first official victim of 9/11 was gay. To say that these two men did not receive equal right in this country is a travesty. Times will change, because it is the right thing to do.
I have started writing a book. Below is the first page. The book is titled – “Maybe It’s Time”.

Gettysburg, PA – November 19, 1863
When we talk about equal rights we have to go back so far in this country, to the beginning of our invasion over the First Nation People, the Indigenous. This was their land. Then white man came and practically wiped them out, through disease and cold blooded murder. We forced them to march from the east to the west and didn’t care as we watched them die along the way. We forced their children out of their homes and refused to let them speak their own language. They were treated as second class citizens, because God made them of a different culture.
Then we decided to catch and ship human beings across an ocean, shackled to the floor. We sold them and treated them worse than animals as we whipped and killed them. We hung them from trees. We didn’t let them drink out of certain water fountains, they couldn’t eat at certain lunch counters. They were treated as second class citizens, because God made them a different color.
Then we decided that human beings should be rounded up and thrown in jail, simply for dancing and kissing. We decided to fire them from their jobs, even if they were soldiers putting their lives on the line to keep us safe. We justify not giving those same soldiers equal rights. We justified killing them, simply because they “made a pass” at us. We decided to tell “those” teenagers they were evil and God thought their love wasn’t as valuable as other loves. We watch as “those” teenagers kill themselves 6 times more often than other teenagers. They are treated as second class citizens, without 1,138 rights other Americans have, because God created them to sleep with the same sex rather than the opposite..
MAYBE ITS TIME WE REMEMBER THAT THIS COUNTRY WAS CONCEIVED IN LIBERTY AND DEDICATED TO THE PROPOSITION THAT ALL MEN (AND WOMEN) ARE SUPPOSED TO BE CREATED EQUAL.

Former Evangelist Slams Anti-Gay Right

Former Evangelical powerhouse Frank Schaeffer, recently spoke with DL Hughley about Rush Limbaugh, the GOP and the Religious Right. During that segment he stated:
“Rush Limbaugh is telling the truth when he says he wants him (Obama) to fail. These people are ideological enough that they would rather take our whole country down and be proved right than be patriotic and be Americans, stand up and do the thing that everyone who loves this country should do right now which is support the President whether you voted for him or not!”
