The Fathr of Grindr, Joel Simkhai

February 18, 2010 by Gay Agenda News Team · Leave a Comment

Though he may come off modestly in the below interview, 33 year-old Joel Simkhai is responsible for the biggest change in gay hookups since the hanky code. His iPhone application Grindr functions as a sort of real-life gaydar, where a user can see a list of gay men in his area, how far away they are (to the foot!) and what they look like. Couple that with a chat function and you have a sort of gay sci-fi future where men can plug in anywhere and at any time to see if their next date, mate, or cum-drenched illicit gang bang is just around the literal corner.

Top 5 Gay iPhone Apps

November 30, 2009 by Gay Agenda News Team · Leave a Comment

The Apple App Store just hit 100,000 apps which is an amazing statistic within itself. If you take a look at the App Store Metrics on 148Apps.Biz you will find that Games make up 16.9%, Entertainment makes up 13.86% and Books come in at 13.69%. These three are responsible for the top selling categories in the App Store. Buried within apps where you can accomplish nearly anything from running your own virtual Spa in Sally’s Spa or for those in the medical field there is STAT ICD-9 LITE which provides all 13,677 ICD-9-CD diagnosis codes to the user’s iPhone.

App Store MetricsWith so many different options it’s no surprise whatsoever that various Gay related apps would not only be created but thrive within the community. There are some good and some bad ones but a few stand out from the crowd.

An App for Your Gay Agenda!

October 11, 2009 by James Hipps · 2 Comments

We all get buys these days and most of us know the importance of staying organized. Whether or not we do may be another issue, but let’s face it, with today’s world it pays to stay on “top” of your to do’s, unless you prefer to be underneath.

So to help you keep up with your gay agenda (no not your plans to destroy marriage, recruit children and do lots of cardio) is a new app for you from Cerebral Itch called “My Gay Agenda” The app is a first-class personal calendar application and hilarious take on what the well-organized “Velvet Mafia” operative would carry.

My Gay Agenda is a powerful personal calendar app complete with ubiquitous event features for all-day events and events that span multiple days. MGA also has a stylish and robust Notes feature and “Today In Gay” – a daily historical synopsis of key “historical events”.

You also may occasionally come across handwritten notes unveiling nefarious plans to take over the world (or make it a bit more fabulous).

A portion of the proceeds from My Gay Agenda will go to Project Angel Food, a non-profit organization that provides daily meals for people homebound or disabled by HIV/AIDS and other serious illnesses.

Want to Know? There’s An App for That!

September 21, 2009 by James Hipps · Leave a Comment

I ran across this rather interesting post on PCMag.com:

Locating unidentified homosexual men on Facebook? There’s an app for that. It was created by two students at MIT, who discovered that gay men tend to have more male Facebook friends of their own orientation.

The students, Carter Jernigan and Behram Mistree, ran the program on 10 men who were gay, but didn’t reveal that information on their profiles. The software predicted that all ten were gay, according to the London Telegraph.

In total the researchers ran their software on 947 people who did not disclose their sexual orientation on their profiles, but it failed to accurately identify lesbians or bisexuals of either gender.

The software apparent does not work for bisexual people or lesbians. No word on when it will be available for the iPhone.

Now, this is fairly interesting from many perspectives.

One, regardless of how you look at it, it’s still purely speculation…or should I say “guilt” by association.  I put guilt in quotes, because as you know, LGBT people are not guilty of anything…other than perhaps apathy and being totally fabulous…but seriously, this is kind of really scary.  Just want I want is some right wing nut job who hates the gays looking at one of my straight friend’s profile and targeting them with some hate-crime because they believe they are gay because they have gay friends on Facebook!  This is starting to remind me of something you’d read about…like the Salem witch trials…or worse.

Secondly, is this what it’s all come down to?  Does someone’s sexual orientation define who they are?  I realize for some who are haters it may, but really, why does anyone really care?

So, for all those inquiring minds out there…if you really feel you need to know if someone is gay, why don’t you simply ask them…but be careful…because if you do, there may be an app for that too!

Double-Standard for Gay iPhone Apps

July 26, 2009 by Gay Agenda News Team · Leave a Comment

From Pink News:

Apple is maintaining a double-standard when it comes to gay-themed iPhone apps, a developer claims. Attempting to draw publicity, Terry Ray claims that his iGaydar title was rejected from the App Store on the same day as Bruno — an app based on the Sacha Baron Cohen movie — was approved. iGaydar was rejected for “objectionable content,” despite being considerably less graphic than the Bruno app, according to Ray.
