Huckabee: Once You Change Marriage, There is “No Limit”
November 25, 2009 by James Hipps · 3 Comments
No Mike, this is NOT about changing marriage. Marriage hasn’t always meant the same thing. At one time it meant multiple spouses. At one time it was a pre-arranged union. At one time people of various colors weren’t allowed to marry.
This whole rhetoric about how “gay marriage” will lead to polygamy is absurd to say the least. It hasn’t in The Netherlands, Belgium, Canada, Spain, Norway, and Sweden.
Mike, you say is so calm and smooth. You actually think people can see beyond your caring tone? Do you think for one minute, just because you use a Mr. Rogers style voice when you spew anti-gay rhetoric that anyone other than those brainwashed by the religious right believes you care about anyone’s marriage. YOU DON”T LIKE GAY PEOPLE…have the MANHOOD to come out and say it! You can say it however you want, but the fact remains, you are a homophobic bigot. We’ve all heard the saying “a rose is still a rose by any other name”, yes Mike, and bigotry and discrimination is still bigotry and discrimination, no matter how hard you try to twist it around to be so supportive of “opposite marriage”. How many “gay friends” do you have Mike? When was the last time you went to a gay couple’s house for dinner? Of course, I would also ask, when was the last time you went to a person of color’s house for dinner because they are your “friend”? You are against LGBT having equality. You stood against hate-crimes legislation. You don’t agree with anti-discrimination laws that include LBGT citizens. You are a part of the religious right machine and you are a homophobic bigot!

Colleen Raezler: One of the Right Wing Nut Busters at NewsBusters
September 27, 2009 by James Hipps · 1 Comment
There’s a post on NewsBusters.com by Colleen Raezler which tries to disguise itself as a ‘critique’ or ‘review’ of the new ABC comedy, Modern Family.
Basically, all she accomplishes is blasting the critics who like the show and blasting ABC for trying to ruin the moral values of a good Christian nation by promoting homosexual propaganda.
From her post:
“the show itself is stereotypical Hollywood propaganda.”
What’s the stereotypical Hollywood propaganda? Why it’s promoting the gay agenda, of course. This lady appears to be somewhat riled up over the fact the show depicts a gay couple who have adopted a child.
So, unable to contain her opposing views, she spews the “stereotypical” Christian right rhetoric, such as:
“Mitchell’s dad is less than thrilled with his son’s lifestyle. Writers portrayed him as a bigot.”
No Colleen, of course he’s not a bigot. Everyone knows if you base your hate and discrimination on the Bible you’re not a bigot…you’re just a good Christian who hates people.
Then of course she brings out the Biblical big guns stating:
(The show) “undermined the truth that kids do need a mother.”
Well, Colleen, perhaps in an ideal world, every child would have a mother and a father. But wait, what about the over one million homeless children living in the U.S. alone? I don’t see married couples jumping at the chance to adopt them. In fact, what I see are the good Christians of this nation holding tea-parties because they don’t believe the over one million homeless children in the U.S. deserve health care.
What about the children who have lost their mother to an untimely death? Should they be forced into the child welfare system until some lovely Christian couple adopts and provides that perfect home? Don’t you think you’re spanking the single Dad’s just a little too hard?
Also Colleen, since we are now fully aware of your opinion that a mother is ALWAYS needed, what do we do for all the other children that don’t have a mother…or one that can, will or wants to care for them?
Can you honestly say it’s better for a child to remain homeless, or in a “government run” (I know how you righties hate anything government run) system that leaves them little if any chance of ever knowing what a loving home is? Is it better to have those children go hungry? Is it better for them to NOT ever have the opportunity to increase their life potential by attending a college or university?
Colleen, you need to get a grip. What you see is in the way you look at it. Your negativity is not only unjust for the children being denied loving homes, but for the LGBT people who would be great parents providing unconditional love, a safe home, food, clothes, and a chance at a higher education to the children that would otherwise live without.
How selfish are you and where does your God complex come from. Your opinions are bigoted, you views filled with hate, and your ignorance abounds.
Whether you like it or not Colleen, statistics prove you wrong. Children that have been raised in LGBT homes statistically grow up with higher rates of education and are extremely well adjusted as adults…the difference between you and them, they are thankful to the LGB or T people for doing their part to make the world a better place. They are proud of their LGB or T parents who provided an opportunity they otherwise, may have never had…the opportunity to succeed without hate, intolerance or bigotry.
Tea Baggers? NO – Douche Baggers!

I am willing to bet, the man and woman in the video have never done without health care. I’m willing to bet they’ve never experienced discrimination. I’m willing to bet their home hasn’t gone into foreclosure. I’m willing to bet they would be very nervous if they were the only white people in an elevator along with 12 other people. I’m willing to bet they’ve never been to a person of color’s house for dinner. I’m willing to bet they have used the “N” word more than once in their life. I’m willing to bet they consider them self “God fearing”. I’m willing to bet they feel something has been ‘taken away’ from them. I’m willing to bet they don’t agree with allowing immigrants to enter the U.S. I’m willing to bet they believe America is theirs…not OURS!
This is the opposition. This is the sad truth about Americans. This is why I am sometimes embarrassed to be American…this is why I’m usually embarrassed to be white.
How are Beck, Limbaugh & the Other Nuts Going to Excuse This One?

A 51 year-old white male has been detained and is being investigated by the Secret Service after attending a Right Wing demonstration aimed at disrupting a town hall meeting on health-care reform in western Maryland.
Why was the right wing nut detained? According to Washington County Sheriff’s Capt. Peter Lazich, the sign read, “Death to Obama” and “Death to Michelle and her two stupid kids.” After sheriff’s deputies took the man into custody, he was turned over to the Secret Service.
President Obama did not attend the meeting held by Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD).
So here we have it. Death threats, wished, or whatever you want to call it. What it boils down to is these older white “Christian” racist bigots can’t stand the fact there is someone smarter than them, with a different color of skin in office, who has appointed a Latina Supreme Court Justice and is working to provide health care for those who can’t otherwise afford it, a challenge in life I feel certain the man carrying the sign has never experienced.
This isn’t an uprising over government spending. This isn’t concern for our nation’s future. These disruptions of town halls are hate based demonstrations of racism and bigotry. The older, white, conservative, Bible beating, American males, that have never felt the oppression of discrimination can’t stand the thought of change. This is a mass resistance to change, and after the mess the Bush regime left this nation in, we need change!
I’ve yet to hear comments from the likes of Beck, O’Reilly or Limbaugh, but I’m sure they’ll offer up some “excuse” and try their best to promote sympathy for this guy, just as they’ve done their best to promote hate and incite violence. They have become a boil on the face of the U.S. I am embarrassed to be associated with them as an American. I can only hope the rest of the world understands they represent a relatively small portion of people in this country.
The time has come to stop! This madness has to stop. I know this is an old message, but one that needs to be revived…America…love it, or leave it! There is no room in this country for racism or bigotry anymore. There’s no room for discrimination. There’s no excuse for millions of dollars being spent to save the “sanctity” of marriage. No matter how much I disliked George W., I never wished him dead, and as long as he was president, I respected his position. Rarely did I agree with him, and I knew what a mess he was making, but I never once, wished him harm.
The right wing in this country is out of control. I realize eight years of bliss has clouded their judgment, but this just goes to show why rights, health care and other issues can NOT be left up to the American public to decide. This mob mentality is embarrassing. These disruptions are no more and no less than what we condemn other countries for.
Older white Americans fear the impact of immigration…well I fear the impact of their bigotry and hatred. The right wing lunatics…and yes, that includes you Malkin, Coulter, Hannity, et. al., is turning this country into a third world nation. The exact thing they fear the most is becoming reality because of their actions.
We know the problem, it’s obvious. Now how are we going to fix it?
I hope this guy who carried that sign goes to prison. That is unacceptable and un-American behavior.
Wisconsin’s Face of Discrimination & Bigotry
August 5, 2009 by James Hipps · Leave a Comment
Under fire and brimstone that is.
As you know, Monday marked the first day same-sex couples in Wisconsin could sign up as part of the state’s new domestic partnership registry.
The registry offers gay and lesbian couples some of the same benefits as heterosexual couples, most notably hospital visitations and the ability to make end-of-life decisions. A companion piece of legislation also extends health insurance benefits to the same-sex partners of state employees.
Of course, not everyone is taking this one as a win, and that includes the typically angry Julaine Appling, (pictured) president of Wisconsin Family Action, a religious based public policy group that stands against rights for LGBT citizens. I would also like to mention that WFA is a 501C non-profit, which means the money they collect from donors to fight against equality and support discrimination is not taxed.
With the help of the anti-gay Alliance Defense Fund, Wisconsin Family Action has filed a petition at the state Supreme Court in hopes they will strike the new laws down.
The court is currently out of session and ultimately must decide whether or not the issue presented is significant enough to consider. If the court rejects the petition, Appling stated her and her group will attempt a more traditional route through trial and appellate courts.
Dogging the courts that have stood against discrimination, Appling said:
“We expect to hear something in the next several months, but it is hard to predict what a state Supreme Court will do, as Iowa and Massachusetts showed in vivid colors.”
Appling is upset that 58% of Wisconsin voters backed the constitutional amendment in 2006 that banned same-sex marriage in the state, and she contends Gov. Jim Doyle bypassed voters’ wishes by including the registry in the state budget bill. Obviously the real problem Appling has isn’t with same-sex marriage, but rather with affording LGBT citizens any rights as a domestic partner registry and marriage are by far not in the same arena. Of course, this is the same woman who said that she wasn’t sure why LGBT people were fighting for rights…”after all, well let them live wherever they want”.
But Appling has continued here misinformed tirade against LGBT citizens by stating:
“We brought the lawsuit to defend will people expressed in November 2006, defend the constitution of Wisconsin and to defend the institution of marriage. It’s reprehensible that elected officials passed this law with express disregard for the will of people. To get this passed like this without a separate hearing in the Assembly and the Senate and a full floor debate and to bury it a voluminous budget when most people didn’t even realize it was there is unacceptable. The governor can’t escape without impunity and he needs to be called out on the carpet.”
But, who really needs to be called out on the carpet is Appling herself as she admits her objections are based on her “Christian outlook.”
Appling stated:
“God’s plan on marriage has an opening and a closing with a man and woman. He has planned the purposes of marriage and pictures that to us in His relationship with his beloved bride, the church. It is a special unique relationship for the good of God and for men, women and children. Marriage is not just about a relationship between two adults. It’s about the next generation and handing down family lines. The amendment was overwhelmingly supported. We are proud to champion God’s plan for marriage. The will of the people, the constitution and the institution of marriage all must be defended.”
What I want to know is when people like Appling are going to take responsibility for their own bigotry and stop blaming God. Marriage is NOT a “Christian” rite of passage. People other than Christians are married every day and it’s time for all three branches of our federal government to stand up to people like Appling and let her know her religion, which is a very personal choice, can NOT be a deciding factor of political policy or public law. There is no room for religious ideology in determining who receives which rights. Julaine Appling is no better and not more deserving of rights for her “Christian” beliefs than the atheist down the street. We are all Americans and it’s time, past time, we all were given equality!
