McCain V McCain on DADT

Could it be he’s still pissed off that he lost the election? Is he upset with Meghan and Cindy for speaking out against H8T or perhaps he’s suffering from the onset of dementia or Alzheimer’s? Then again, it could just be good old fashioned Republican hate and bigotry. Regardless of the reason, it’s wrong! In the following video (courtesy of Daily Kos) John McCain represents what’s wrong with the Republican party and right wing America!

And continuing with the anti-gay “conservative” rhetoric, Bill (Pay the girl $20 million to make the sexual harassment suit go away) O’Reilly says “just don’t be coming out”.

Another McCain Joins the Battle for Equality

It would appear that Cindy McCain, the mother of Republican gay rights advocate Meghan McCain and wife of former presidential candidate John McCain has joined the league of ‘mavericks’ when it comes to Republicans who support equality for LGBT Americans!  Maybe there’s hope of rescuing the GOP from the religious right yet?

According to Bouska.net:

Aligning yourself with the platform of gay marriage as a Republican still tends to be very stigmatic, but Cindy McCain wanted to participate in the campaign to show people that party doesn’t matter – marriage equality isn’t a Republican issue any more than it is a Democratic issue. It’s about human rights, and everybody being treated equally in the eyes of the law that runs and protects this country.

Meghan McCain was asked to be the keynote speaker at next month’s National Equality Week at George Washington University for her advocacy. In an odd bit of timing, a student Republican organization has become upset that she’ll be giving that speech — and have publicly voiced their disapproval over the ordeal.

Mehgan McCain on Joe the ‘Dumb@ss’ Plumber

July 18, 2009 by James Hipps · Leave a Comment

Since last year’s presidential election, Meghan McCain has managed to stay as strong voice for the Republican party…although she isn’t exactly widely accepted by her fellow GOPer’s as she has spent a great deal of time denouncing the homophobic and bigoted strategies of many other Republicans, including the likes of Ann Coulter and Karl Rove.

The young McCain has adamantly showing her support for the LGBT community by rallying against anti-gay Republicans.

In a recent interview with Out Magazine, the young McCain responded to Joe the Plumber’s statement that he would never let “gays” around his kids by saying:

“Joe the Plumber — you can quote me — is a dumb*** .  He should stick to plumbing.”

McCain also stated in the interview that, she is aware that she’s not the most well received figure amongst others in the GOP who are more conservative, but she doesn’t seem to mind as she considers herself an example of the reconciliation between being a Republican and being in favor of marriage equality.  McCain stated:

“There are a lot of people who have said, ‘I’m Republican and I’m pro–gay marriage. Thank you for showing that you don’t have to be anti–gay marriage to be a Republican’.”

McCain has also stated the GOP is hypocritical when it comes to marriage equality as they also carry a strong view on wanting to keep government out of citizen’s private lives.

According to Out Magazine, Meghan McCain was shocked at the passage of Proposition 8 last November in California, which is what prompted her to begin publicly advocating for equal rights.  McCain said:

“Homophobia is the last socially accepted prejudice,” and the struggle for gay rights is “my generation’s civil rights movement.”

Meghan claims not to be the only one in the McCain family to support marriage equality. She states:

“My mom was always for gay marriage. But I think me being so vocal about it has made her want to be more vocal about it.”

As far her father, Meghan said that she is keeping her fingers crossed that he will “someday come around” but admits “he’s 73 and of a different generation.”

So finally, a McCain who is a real “maverick”.  Although I’m not a fan of the GOP, I do have to say, the more I hear from this Republican, the more I really like her!
