SpongeBob Activist Retires

March 6, 2010 by Gay Agenda News Team · Leave a Comment

After 33 years of leading the pro-family, anti-indecency group he founded, the Rev. Donald Wildmon has resigned for health reasons and left leadership of the American Family Association to his family, more specifically, his son Tim.

Like Focus on the Family, which sponsored the Tim Tebow Super Bowl ad, the American Family Association is an activist group. While you may not have heard of its founder or even its name, you’ve likely heard of its boycotts.

This is the group that speculated that the cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants was “gay” and being used to promote acceptance of homosexuality.

AFA: Living Proof Hitler’s Alive and Well

February 10, 2010 by James Hipps · 1 Comment

He told the 1985 Conservative Political Action Committee conference that “extermination of homosexuals” might be needed in the next three to four years. He has advocated tattooing AIDS patients in the face, and banishment to a former leper colony for any patient who resisted. He has called for gay bars to be closed and gays to be registered with the government.

Cameron even has called AIDS a “godsend,” and it was for him: Though he was kicked out of the American Psychological Association for ethical violations in 1983 (he was alleged to have used unsound methods and misrepresented the work of others) — and then, after pawning himself off as a sociologist, declared “not a sociologist” by the American Sociological Association — his studies alleging that homosexuals were intentionally spreading AIDS have been frequently cited by anti-gay groups and commentators like Pat Buchanan.

And yet, the ever so Christian American Family Association founded by the anti-gay Donald E. Wildmon, is still quoting this guy and using his “expertise” to make their case against homosexuals and their pending gay agenda.  Why are they quoting an obvious nut?  Because they too feel homosexuals should be exterminated.  This group and their large following want to see all LGBT citizens murdered, put in an oven and baked, yes, Hitler IS alive and well, right here in the good ole’ U.S.A.

So people…just another reminder…this is what we’re up against!

AFA Upset Over AAA “Family” Discount

August 4, 2009 by James Hipps · 3 Comments

Here we go again.  The anti-gay American Family Association, lead by the Religious Right nut job Donald E. Wildmon, (living proof that Satan is alive on earth and more than likely never finished the second grade) has his panties in a wad over the American Automobile Association’s decision to offer Gay & Lesbian couples a “family” membership.

On AFA’s website, they have an email form in place where anti-gay bigots can email AAA’s CEO to proclaim their displeasure with the organization for treating GLBT citizens as…well…citizens.  Below is the text of that email.

Dear Mr. Darbelnet:

My family and I are deeply shocked and saddened that AAA would alter its Family Membership policy to include recognizing homosexual couples as being “married.”

Thirty states have overwhelmingly voted to define marriage as being between one man and one woman.  Yet AAA is treating homosexual couples as if they are married.

My family and I ask you to immediately reverse this policy of recognizing homosexual couples as if they were “married.”

I will share your response with my family and friends.

“Deeply shocked and saddened.”I suppose Donny has failed to remember that certain states have ended marriage discrimination against Gay and Lesbian couples, and I suppose he also has failed to remember that many of those couples have children which make them…well…a family.

I think we should all send an email to AAA to let them know how pleased we are with their decision to treat LGBT families as citizens and thank them for taking a step in the right direction by not letting religious ideology that promotes hate, intolerance, bigotry and discrimination.

You can send a note of thanks to:

RDarbelnet@national.aaa.com

Or write a letter of thanks to:

Robert L. Darbelnet, CEO

Or simply pick up the phone and call:

Let’s do our part to assure AAA their efforts towards equality and inclusion are greatly appreciated!

A Storm is Coming…No, But Seriously!

April 28, 2009 by James Hipps · Leave a Comment

So most of you by now have seen the NOM (National Organization for Marriage) video warning that “a storm is coming” and that storm is of course equality and inclusion for LGBT citizens, which includes the right to marry.   We’ve also seen a good amount of parodies that poke fun of the video.

We’ve also seen straight people tea-bagging, Newt Gingrich has once again reared his ugly head, and the Donald E Wildmons, James Dobsons, Pat Robertsons and other anti-gay, hate mongering bigots of the Religious Right have come out swinging like a blindfolded child intent upon hitting a pinata.

We’ve heard talk of secession, and the battle lines have been drawn and appear pretty clear at this point.

I commonly refer to the US as the United States of Amnesia as we so easily and quickly tend to forget our past.  Yes, we know our history, but we don’t allow that history to guide us, and most of us are too arrogant to believe that history will repeat itself.   Unfortunately, that very history we so eagerly sweep under the rug is exactly the point I am going to make.

In an effort to simplify, I’ll use one example from the past…the Civil Rights Movement.   I am fully aware that many are opposed to this comparison, and I too believe there were distinct differences between the Civil Right and Gay Rights Movement of today.  However, I, just as Congressman John Lewis,  also see a great many parallels between the two, which presents my greatest concern.

People on both sides of this issue are adamant and strong.  Tensions have, and will continue to build until a national standard has been set.  Even then there will still be some resistance, as there are people in this country who refuse to let go of their hate, and they will always hate others based upon race, creed, color, religion, gender and sexual orientation.  Unlike being LGBT, hating is a learned characteristic and a choice.  Voicing one’s hate is also protected by the First Amendment, which is why the KKK is still in existence today.

Because of this hate, there continues to be hate crimes committed every day in this nation against various groups.  The group that has seen the sharpest increase in the number of hate crimes committed against them is the LGBT community.

Let’s revert back to the Civil Rights Movement.  There were many people of color murdered simply for their color, just as there have been many LGBT citizens murdered simply because they were and LGBT person.  In the Civil Rights Movement, it wasn’t until momentum started to build that things started to change where we witnessed horrendous acts of violence committed against larger collectives of those struggling to gain civil rights.

According to an abstract from Civil Rights Success and the Politics of Racial Violence” written by Joseph E Luders, Associate Professor of Political Science at Yeshiva University in New York;

Many have argued that the violent backlash against the civil rights movement provided the critical stimulus for the enactment of federal civil rights legislation and encouraged the emergence of moderates in state politics. Accounting for the success of the civil rights movement necessitates an explanation for the fierce intransigence of certain states. Although it is often assumed that reactionary southern authorities lacked an appreciation of the dangers of extremism, many were aware of the risks but nevertheless tolerated anti-rights violence. To explain this puzzling reluctance to pursue the ostensibly optimal response, I argue that attention must be paid to two factors: the presence of organized segregationists to discourage public officials from cracking down on white supremacists and the unwillingness or inability of business interests to organize in favor of the suppression of white extremists. Lacking political cover for milder forms of resistance, public officials tolerated white anti-rights violence. The willingness to tolerate white extremism fostered an increase in anti-rights violence. This escalation, in turn, not only triggered federal action but also prompted state business leaders to call for the restoration of order and urge greater moderation.

Certainly we need to remember the march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, where “Christian” state troopers and local police alike brutally attacked over 600 peaceful demonstrators at one time.

For some reason, it isn’t until the shock that comes after a volcano has erupted that citizens of this country become appalled and say enough is enough.  Too many times in our past we have been reactive rather than proactive.  Just look at the amount of abuse that took place before the federal government stepped in and mandated equality for people of color, and again, those mandates did not occur prior to large scale episodes that shocked the nation.

This is the real storm that’s coming.  I see history repeating itself and I see great numbers of people being attacked by “Christians” in this country.  Before I go further, I do want to clarify my stance on this.  I  know not all Christians feel the same, and I  know many Christians support equality for LGBT citizens, but I also know the major force of opposition in this country comes from the “extreme” Christian Right, much like the opposition that faced the Civil Rights Movement.  I also know that extremist Christians do exist in all parts of this country, some who have adopted the opinion that LGBT citizens are fortunate we are “allowed” to live wherever we want.  This thought is not indifferent from past thought when people of color who were not permitted to live in certain areas prior to federal desegregation and anti-discrimination mandates.

So, when is it going to happen?  When will the tragic event that shocks the nation occur?  When will the fight against the LGBT community turn violent hurting or killing numbers?  When will the volcano of violence erupt against the LGBT community?  I’m not sure, and I hope I am wrong.  But I’m also aware that history does have a way of repeating itself.

The volatile and extreme positions against homosexuality many from the Religious Right have taken worries me.  Here is a group that does not think in rational terms, and again, as history has shown, can and will become violent.

The extreme Right Wing can kick and scream all they want about how the government has labeled them as “dangerous” and “extreme”, but the government is only going on lessons from history, one lesson, that I am afraid, will have to be learned again.

Religious Right Rhetoric, Hate, Lies & Bigotry Hits TV

February 14, 2009 by James Hipps · Leave a Comment

The anti-gay American Family Association has produced an hour-long program, entitled “Speechless” which is being run on various television news channels across the U.S.

In a press release sent out by AFA President Tim Wildmon, the video is introduced as follows:

“Local network television stations will soon begin airing a new television special produced by the American Family Association. Most Americas get their information about the homosexual movement from the secular news media and Hollywood, which not only support but promote the gay agenda. What people know is tainted by pro-homosexual propaganda.

AFA now presents this one-hour special to reveal the truth about the radical homosexual agenda and its impact on the family, the nation, and religious freedom.”

The group says they intend to “reveal the truth” about issues pertaining to homosexuality including, but not limited to homosexuality as a genetic trait, the impact homosexuality on children, same-sex marriage,  hate crimes legislation and Employment Non-Discrimination Act legislation.  It includes a great deal of misleading claims and even goes as far as alleging hate crimes legislation will lead to the criminalization of preaching. Support of this claim comes from an isolated incident that happened in Canada, which does not have the First Amendment, where a minister was arrested for preaching against homosexuality.  Lies, deceit and more lies.  Silly haters, don’t they know the “Gay Agenda” is a website?

You can get a copy of the video online at www.SilencingChristians.com.
