Speak at a KKK Breakfast?

February 4, 2010 by Gay Agenda News Team · Leave a Comment

Would President Obama speak at a prayer breakfast organized by the KKK? Would Jim Wallis and other progressive Christians attend?  Then what will they be doing on Thursday Feb 3 at the National Prayer Breakfast founded and sponsored by the notorious gay-bashing “The Family” fringe far right group? (I ask this as a practicing progressive Christian and repentant former religious right leader).

Yes, that’s the same folks who’s key members here and in Africa are mired in the Uganda kill the gays legislation!

Yes, that’s the same folks who long ago used their US government/hard right contacts to try and get the US Government to cozy up to fascist dictator-for-life Franco of Spain.

Yes, that’s the “C-Street” adulterers club in Wash DC that coddles far right philandering Republicans and protects them when they cheat on their wives, not to mention on their country by using their senator and congressmen members to export the worst of American fundamentalism abroad using quasi-governmental auspices.

These are the folks that the evangelicals and others have been in bed with for years at the National Prayer Breakfast.

Why?

It’s about access to power, stupid!

Countering the ‘Far Loony Religious Right’

Guest Blogged by Frank Schaeffer at The Brad Blog:

It is my great honor to be part of a Tuesday, Feb 2 press conference to announce the formation of The American Prayer Hour. (Press released posted below.) Why am I doing this? Because the secretive group “The Family” and/or “C-Street” organizations of the far loony Right is the sponsor of the current annual Prayer Breakfast.

“The Family” are closely associated with the American and Ugandan evangelical “Christians” who have been trying to impose the death penalty on gay men and women.

This is my chance as a straight, fifty-seven year old practicing Christian, father of three and grandfather of three to step up and show my solidarity with my gay brothers and sisters. It’s also a chance to try and begin to restore the reputation of Christianity that has for far too long been violated by the Religious Right.

And since in years past (in the 1970s and 80s) my family and I played such a leading role in the formation of the Religious Right this is the least I can do to try and correct the horrible hate and polarization we (my late father Francis Schaeffer and I) personally helped set in motion…

Please read our press release below and do all you can to help us pry a national prayer event from the grip of the half-crazed C-Street gang. It is a scandal that so many “respectable” religious groups from the Right to the Left of the religion spectrum have allowed their good names to be linked to the Family and their nefarious “Reconstructionist” ambitions for America and the world that seeks to impose “biblical law” on our pluralistic society…

You should resign. You’ve either gone senile or become so over-confident that your true nature has been revealed. By making a cruel joke at the expense of Obama appointee Amanda Simpson you have done something as unacceptable as using the N-word in a joke. Bigot is as bigot does.

I’m 57, straight, married, father of three, grandfather of three, a progressive independent voter and an Obama supporter, having formerly been a religious right leader (raised by a famous evangelical) before I quit evangelicalism and right wing politics in the 1980s and became a novelist. I’m not a gay rights activist, though I believe in gay rights.

But I’m disgusted by you taking a cheap gratuitous shot at transgender Obama appointee Amanda Simpson (appointed to the position of Senior Technical Adviser to the Department of Commerce.)

Obama Will Triumph — So Will America

December 25, 2009 by Gay Agenda News Team · 2 Comments

Before he’d served even one year President Obama lost the support of the easily distracted left and engendered the white hot rage of the hate-filled right. But some of us, from all walks of life and ideological backgrounds — including this white, straight, 57-year-old, former religious right wing agitator, now progressive writer and (given my background as the son of a famous evangelical leader) this unlikely Obama supporter — are sticking with our President. Why?– because he is succeeding.

We faithful Obama supporters still trust our initial impression of him as a great, good and uniquely qualified man to lead us.

Obama’s steady supporters will be proved right. Obama’s critics will be remembered as easily panicked and prematurely discouraged at best and shriveled hate mongers at worst.
