Singer-Songwriter and Rapper Anye Elite has set out to prove that love and music are truly universal. His vocal talents are combined with his lyrical abilities to create an innovative mixture of pop, hip-hop,r&b and acoustic soul. Some say he may very well be on the brink of ushering in a new genre of music which he has already labeled “homo-hip-pop”. Yes you read correctly….Homo. Much of the content of Anye’s music draws on his experiences as a gay black man and despite being involved in the notoriously homophobic world of urban music, Anye remains hopeful that listeners and music lovers alike will connect with the universal experiences of love and life.

Jim Hutton died at his home on New Year’s Day from complications from the battle he’d been fighting against cancer  in his last few years.   He was aged  60.  Hutton  had  worked as Mercury’s hairdresser and the singer left him  £500,000 and a plot of land in his will.

Jim Hutton had also tested positive for HIV in 1990 but, at the time he kept the news of his status a secret from many including  Mercury himself.   However,  he later told him shortly before the singer passed away.

Hutton was buried on Sunday in Bennekerry, Ireland,  on what would have been his 61st birthday.

According to Bry’Nt:

The state of hip-hop is in disarray, and is looking for that person that is going to restore true artistry back to the art form. I’m coming to bring what the hip-hop community is lacking, diversity. I plan to take the music industry by storm! Being a Black man, that lives an alternative lifestyle, I’m hoping to change the way the hip-hop community views our world, and bring to light issues that are affecting us all day-to-day.

Looking at the list of ‘nominees’, it would appear that I’m a little more familiar with out artists than perhaps the sponsors of this event are. Where’s Bry’Nt, Scottie Gage, Ariel Aparicio, TimPermanent, JayBezz, TJ Cass, QB of Da Midwest, Gaye Adegbalola? Hell, where’s any of our talented, out gay artist?  Many of the mentioned live right in NYC!

Well, I’m glad I didn’t leave the warm sunshine of South Florida for this one.

According to a very reliable source (name withheld to protect the guilty):

“This was a hot mess!  I went, only stayed for a few minutes… mics didn’t work, presenters didn’t have nominee lists, the main screen stopped working, the open bar liquor sponsor didn’t show…yes, a HOT MESS.”

My source also stated it was “the same faces you always see”.

Why is it, when there’s more and more ‘out’ artist, who are really good, they’re simply just not recognized?

Well, for all those who weren’t nominated, I give a nod!  Thanks for providing the LGBT community with some great music in 2009.  Maybe next year the OMA’s will get it together??

This is really to bad because it was a GREAT opportunity missed. Here’s the perfect opportunity to show the world the LBGT community in a positive light and it was simply under-publicized, under-planned and yes, I’m throwing it under the bus. Events like this are what our community needs, not only to show the world that we’re here, but our contributions, our seriousness, our better side. Gay prides are great too, but let’s make ourselves visible in the mainstream. We are in the mainstream everyday, let’s get that recognition too!

OMA’s….wake up and get it right next year!
