LA Episcopals Elect First Gay Bishops

In order to fill two suffragan bishop openings, the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles elected the first female Bishop, the Rev. Diane M. Jardine Bruce of San Clemente, of its 114-year history on Friday.
On Saturday, it also elected its first openly gay bishop. Reverend Canon Mary Glasspool of Baltimore has had an openly gay relationship since 1988. The development that gay priests would run for bishop is not a surprise. In the LA diocese, the Rev. Glasspool and the Rev. John Kirkley of San Francisco both ran. The moratorium created during the Lambeth Conference became moot during July’s Episcopal Convention in Anaheim when both houses voted to accept consecration of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people as bishops. Glasspool, who holds a master of divinity degree from Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge MA, received 153 votes from the clergy and 203 lay votes. meeting the required majority of ballots.

The Catholics better gird their loins for this one.
The Village Voice is reporting that a new webiste, called ChurchOuting.org, will start outing closeted priests “to expose the hypocrisy of Archdiocese of Washington priests who go along with the church’s routine emotional assault on gays while living lives of quiet desperation that involve them having gay sex themselves.”

Presbyterians Vote on Gay Clergy
March 16, 2009 by James Hipps · Leave a Comment
The Presbyterian Church has been voting nationwide to decide whether or not gay and lesbian ministers would be permitted to serve congregations and whether or not single ministers should be bound to remain celibate.
The Pittsburgh Presbytery decided this weekend against allowing homosexuals to serve in a 206-105 vote.
To date, 43 other Presbyteries have voted in favor of the measure and 72 voted against it. According to the church’s bylaws, over 87 presbyteries must vote for, in order to pass an amendment for it to become church law.
This is the third time in the last 3 decades that gay ministers have been voted on by the denomination, with the last vote having been held in 2002.
More homophobes voting against homosexuals…thank GOD religion IS a choice!
Those in Glass Houses – Still Throwing Stones
January 15, 2009 by James Hipps · Leave a Comment
It never ceases to amaze me. Today on the CNA (Catholic News Agency) website, they had a post about how the Episcopal Church had ordained a lesbian priest. Now, the Catholics are up in arms over this because homosexuality is the root of all evil and this issues has split the Episcopalian following.
I’ve searched pretty hard, and I could be wrong, but I haven’t been able to find an instance where the Episcopal church has ever berated or criticized the Catholic church. Even with the numerous accounts of Catholic priest who have been found guilty of child molestation and pedophilia.
Those houses must be built of some pretty thick glass!
