Q.B. of Da’ Midwest aka “The Gay Vigilante”
April 5, 2009 by James Hipps · Leave a Comment
Q.B. Of Da’ Midwest aka “The Gay Vigilante” has always had a deep passion for music, at an early age, he loved to sing, and he would on often sneak his mothers tapes and sing along to some of his favorite artist.
Writing short stories, poems, drawing and anything involving “The Arts” was what he spent most of his pastime doing. At the age of 16 is when he and his sister decided that they wanted to start writing freestyle lyrics of their own. A move back to Chicago to stay with his grandparents on the city’s south-side, really sparked this need for him to write things that were going on in his life and thoughts he had that sometimes he was afraid to speak about.
At this point in his life he really didn’t identify himself as being “gay”, but he always felt as if he were “different”, and he knew that he had sometime unique about him and writing was something he embraced to overcome the fears, questions and feelings he had about his sexuality. A couple of years later, he and his sister along with other neighborhood friends formed the group “Wolcott Lynch Mob”, In which he was known for his outlandish, and over the top lyrics and persona. The group soon fell apart due to tension within the group.
Shortly after the breakup Q.B. moved on his own and became more intrigued with the Chicago Gay Scene. He would regularly sneak into the local gay clubs to watch the shows and sometimes assist the drag-queens and performers who mentored him. Those opportunity’s and experiences gave Q.B. Of Da’ Midwest a new look into the gay scene, music and performing as a whole and it opened his eyes to what it took to be an openly gay artist/ performer.
It is this humbling admiration for the business and the people who made it possible for others to openly express themselves that gives Q.B. the drive, motivation and persistence to pursue his dream. He ventured off from writing lyrics to become a gay socialite, “the life of the party” and that would eventually lead to him performing at local gay bars, house parties, and balls. This is when he official coined the name Queen B.
It was shortly after him becoming the House “Princess” of The House of Burberry that things started to take a slightly change, he would continue to perform, and become more involved with the “Ballroom Scene” but he was more interested in music and fashion than he was “vouging”. This lasted only for a couple years. And he soon turned back to writing, and rapping.
A few years later he meets Le’Rell, another openly gay artist and under the direction of J.R. “The King of Gay Rap” he went on to recorded “Freaky Shorties” and a “Tambourine Remix” under the name “NV” pronounced Envy. Q.B. Of Da’ Midwest soon after formed a duo group with Le’Rell know as “No Mercy Elite”, he and she recorded and released “Miss Me” and M.O.B. (Money Over Bitches), he also recorded and released his solo single “Drippin”. Q.B. is unfortunately no longer a part of “No Mercy Elite” and he is now currently focusing all his attention on his career goals which include beat making, song writing, producing, and working on his debut solo album which he plans to drop later this year. His music is hardcore, sexually explicit, fun, relate-able, gritty, hood and true to his lifestyle and personality.
