Nepal Seeking to Attrack More Gay Tourist

March 15, 2010 by James Hipps · Leave a Comment

According to a post on the NY Times Blog:

Nepal plans to offer same-sex couples the possibility of getting married at the Everest base camp and of honeymooning on a Himalayan trek or adventure tour. But the country also wants a chunk of the multibillion-dollar gay tourist market.  ‘They (LGBT tourist) are high-spending consumers.’’

I think the ongoing effect of this is much greater than what one may think on the onset. I do believe that with increased revenues realized due to directly marketing to the LGBT community, it will eventually lead to others wanting to realize the same market increase and the LGBT community will one day lose its status as a “niche” market and grow into one that business and places compete for.

Tourism is a driving force of Napal’s economy, and the government is hopeful this campaign will double the number of vacationers in 2011 to over one million.

Politics Turn Cities Into Gay Tourist Hot Spots?

Houston’s election late last year of its first openly gay mayor – Annise Parker – coincided serendipitously with a renewed effort to attract gay and lesbian visitors to the fourth-largest city in the nation.

In the eyes of the city’s tourism office, Parker’s election was not only an important political win, but also presented a marketing opportunity. The city launched a campaign titled “My Gay Houston,” featuring gay Houstonians in print advertisements and on a newly-revamped website, as their latest effort in a years-old gay campaign.

Hell’s Kitchen’s First Gay Hotel

February 18, 2010 by Gay Agenda News Team · Leave a Comment

Developers hope to open the city’s first gay boutique hotel – and a major new dance club – in Hell’s Kitchen.

“In the old days there were straight hotels, and operators decided to make them gay- friendly,” said Ian Reiser, head of Parkview Developers, the firm behind the plan. “I’m taking that concept and turning it upside down.”

“It’s going to be called ‘The Out N.Y.C.’ Like, ‘Come out! Let’s go out and play!’” he said.

Reiser and his work and life partner, Mati Weiderpass, plan a $20 million renovation of the Travel Inn at 42nd St. and 10th Ave. to created their 123-room hotel, which also will have a spa, a restaurant, a café and shops.

Living The Dream RV’ing Fulltime

December 10, 2009 by Gay Agenda News Team · 1 Comment

For those who may not even thought that there is such a thing as gay RV’ing, well your eyes are about to be open. There are a great many campgrounds and RV parks which are LGBT exclusive, some for men or women only, others welcome the entire gay/lesbian family with kids in tow, and others which are gay-friendly just like B&B’s and motels and hotels.

Some of course are seasonal, while those in warmer climates are open year-round, and several have the option to live full-time either in your own RV or a park model home.

Just about all offer the basics of any RV campground, electric, water and sewer (either by hook-up, dump station or the infamous “honey wagon”), pool (many for de men only parks such as Camp David’s in Florida have a clothing-optional pool and sunning decks and even el natural sporting events, like volleyball, horseshoe toss, etc … I’m waiting for touch football myself), dance hall/bar and of course the always needed “oh crap I forgot” on premises store.
