Soulgasm: The Right’s Answer to Better Sex
August 25, 2008 by James Hipps · Leave a Comment
Dagmar Herzog reports in her just released book, Sex In Crisis: The New Sexual Revolution and the Future of American Politics, the goal of the emerging Christian sex industry is, in part, to sell what she calls “soulgasm” –incredible orgasms, a deep connection with your partner and “God’s spiritual presence.”
But Prof. Herzog says there is a weird paradox in all this: While evangelicals were loosening up in the bedroom, they were also becoming increasingly hostile to the sexual culture around them. Anti-gay and anti-abortion agendas have become the norm of the Republican Party, and objections to pre-marital sex, sex education (at least the kind that does not emphasize abstinence), contraception and even masturbation are also seeping into America’s already fragile sexual psyche.
“The religious right did the sex work for the Republican Party and actually helped the Republicans come to power in state legislatures, Congress and ultimately the White House,” she said from New York City.

What Really Matters? Wingnuts Are Not Society

I won’t bother with the fine points here. Nobody is really arguing about military readiness, any more than the battle about women soldiers concerned cost-benefit analysis of building extra latrines. Kicking out gay Arabic interpreters and the like makes no sense. Almost everyone knows it. This really is about two things: Do we believe that our LBGT brethren are entitled to the rights and obligations of American citizenship? Will we allow a particular socially conservative subculture to repel civilian control over our military?

GLBT’s: DNC Platform Most Inclusive Yet
August 12, 2008 by James Hipps · Leave a Comment
According to an article in the Advocate; The final version of the Democratic Platform is being hailed as the most LGBT-inclusive to date by queer activists and politicians alike despite the fact that the words gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender do not appear in the text of the platform, according to those who have read the document.
Though the official platform has yet to be released to the public, LGBT advocacy groups say the wording that was adopted explicitly discusses adopting a national HIV/AIDS strategy, repealing the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, and passing hate-crimes and comprehensive employment nondiscrimination legislation. The document reportedly also marked some historic firsts by including “same-sex couples” in the Democratic Party’s definition of families, pledging to fight discrimination based on “gender identity” and opposing the Defense of Marriage Act, which prohibits federal recognition of same-sex partners who are legally married.
“This has been the most inclusive drafting process of a party platform in history,” Rep. Tammy Baldwin said, noting the approximately 1,600 listening sessions that took place across the country to incorporate the ideas and concerns of average voters. Baldwin said the platform was far stronger on LGBT issues than the one adopted in 2004 because it went “from rhetoric to policy and substance and reflected the positions that have been championed by Senator Obama” throughout the campaign.

What a Shame, So Gay and Yet So Violent

It’s a great story that makes the world go ’round — apart from love and money. A story that feeds the insatiable human need for information on the condition of others.
And in Indonesia, the material for such tales never ends. A corruption report every day, death by firing squad, celebrity unions, divorces and a serial murder by an unassuming part-time teacher, with extra bodies unearthed every other day.
Oh, and he is gay!
So said the suspect’s neighbors, fueling even greater creativity for the big headlines and convincing quotes from authorities.
“Victims of crimes by homosexuals have been proved to be killed in a more sadistic manner,” said one detective.
“Gays won’t let go of the man they love,” a criminologist was quoted as saying. “If he can’t have the guy, then no one can,” he added, saying that the only option would be murder.

Annie Get Your Gun & Use it if Necessary

We must realize that getting our rights back will require attacks on mulitple levels. Building bridges is critical and we will have to reach left.
This weekend I was spent time with a French Documentary crew who are making a documentary to be broadcasted in Europe before our elections.
The crew was focusing on Gay issues and since I’m the San Jose coordinator for the Pink Pistols, I brought them down for a shoot. I leased a private range for the event which we spent close to 5 hours filming.
They had come out a few months early to scout things, all I know is they went alot more extensive than guns with me, they wanted to know my private life.
What was interesting is we spent probably about a good 16 hours together and we had alot of back and forth talks on a lot of things.
We got along very well and there is definitely a culture clash between us and Europeans.
I drilled the point that the LBGT community is making a serious mistake in being anti gun because the LBGT community, like any other minority, needs arms to protect themselves on many levels.
1. From Individuals.
2. From Groups
3. From Governments. I cited modern day Iran as an example.
