The NYPD are looking for five men who beat a 22-year-old man on the street last week. The men jumped him, beat him with their fists and shouted anti-gay slurs at him.

Police say, the attackers, called the victim a “faggot” and punched him numerous times in the face, knocking him down and causing him to suffer a gash on the back of his head.

Developers hope to open the city’s first gay boutique hotel – and a major new dance club – in Hell’s Kitchen.
“In the old days there were straight hotels, and operators decided to make them gay- friendly,” said Ian Reiser, head of Parkview Developers, the firm behind the plan. “I’m taking that concept and turning it upside down.”
“It’s going to be called ‘The Out N.Y.C.’ Like, ‘Come out! Let’s go out and play!’” he said.
Reiser and his work and life partner, Mati Weiderpass, plan a $20 million renovation of the Travel Inn at 42nd St. and 10th Ave. to created their 123-room hotel, which also will have a spa, a restaurant, a café and shops.

The Ali Forney Center opened in 2002 to provide safe shelter for GLBT youth in New York City. It was named after Ali Forney, a homeless gay teen who was murdered in 1997. The center, which takes in about 1,000 GLBT youth each year still has a nightly waiting list averaging 150.
The Ali Forney Center has had many supporters over the years including the late Golden Girls actress, Bea Arthur, who donated a significant amount to the organization. This week another donor came forward, the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island which contributed $200,000 towards a new 16-bed shelter in Queens, New York.

A Day Without Soldiers

In NYC, soldiers carrying M-16’s guarded the train stations. Here in Indiana, we live 20-miles from a US army camp and at our mall, dozens of enlisted men hang out in their fatigues but no guns. Overhead, metro-bus sized army helicopters fly by; and on the expressways, huge army trucks and jeeps zoom by with hidden cargo. Which do I prefer? Neither.
