March 10, 2010 by Gay Agenda News Team · 2 Comments

The NYPD are looking for five men who beat a 22-year-old man on the street last week. The men jumped him, beat him with their fists and shouted anti-gay slurs at him.

The NYPD says the man was attacked last Tuesday morning at Luquer Street and Hamilton Avenue as he left a gay and lesbian party at a bar, about 12:50 a.m. on March 2. Police say, the attackers, called the victim a “faggot” and punched him numerous times in the face, knocking him down and causing him to suffer a gash on the back of his head.

NYC Cops Keep Arresting Gay Men For Cruising Which Isn’t Illegal!

October 23, 2009 by James Hipps · Leave a Comment

The rationale the NYPD has been using to arrest gay men cruising in adult book shops? It’s unconstitutional. So how come the police continue to intimidate these men, and courts continue to hear cases and issue punishments for a crime that is, in fact, not a crime at all?

It’s a great question, and Slate’s Daniel Redman tries answering it. “In 1983,” he reminds us, “New York’s high court struck down as unconstitutional a 1960s-era provision that made it illegal to cruise—that is, to hit on someone in a public place. And yet in the 26 years since, on thousands of occasions, the New York Police Department has continued to enforce the defunct law, historically used to target gay people.”

On Sunday, 26 year-old Daniel Aleman was arrested and charged with aggravated assault as a hate crime.

Police are still looking for the second suspect.

Wrongful Manhattan Arrest Reopening Old Wounds

February 2, 2009 by James Hipps · Leave a Comment

A great deal of anger is building against the NYPD due to an increased number of gay men being arrested for prostitution at various Manhattan adult video stores. City Council Speaker Christine Quinn is working with the mayor’s office, the police department and gay community groups “to get to the bottom of this.”

According to Quinn,

“We need to have the arrest policy stopped and to figure out how it started. This egregious targeting of gay men is not even entrapment. These are false arrests.”

Police allegedly have been using good looking, young undercover cops to try to pick up middle-aged gay men,  The undercover cops offer to go home with them for consensual sex. As the officers leave the store with the men, they offer to pay the men for the sex, which often confuses the victims who don’t understand why a younger man would offer to pay them for sex.  Then, as the officer escorts the unknowing male out of the store, they find themselves surrounded by undercover cops, handcuffed and charged with prostitution, even though they never agreed to taking money for sex.

Many citizens, gay and straight allies of the gay community, view the arrests as an effort by police to shut down pornography stores the city,  and also view this as an attempt by police to criminalize gay sex, much as they did prior to the Stonewall riots of 1969 when it was illegal for more than 3 gay men to congregate in any given location at one time.

Homophobia, even in Manhattan is alive and well.

Homeless Man Accused of Murdering Gay Pace Student

September 3, 2008 by James Hipps · Leave a Comment

Just when some bloggers started pointing the finger at a homo hook-up gone wrong, the NYPD arrested a suspect in the murder of openly gay 19-year-old Pace University student Kevin Pravia.

Jeromie Cancel, 22, has confessed that he smothered Pravia, watched the horror film “Saw” in his apartment then robbed him.

As cops escorted him out of the precinct, Cancel smiled and said he killed Pravia “because I wanted to.” “You got a problem with that?” he asked reporters.

Cancel said that Pravia fell asleep, so he punched the student in the face, stuffed a bag in his mouth, wrapped the television cord around his neck and suffocated him, according to police. He said he took a laptop and cell phone that he sold on the street and iPod, and he claims he can’t remember where it is.
