Pepsico Apologizes for Anti-Gay Support

Protests by Change.org, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), OutRage! and others have persuaded PepsiCo to climb down and apologize, after it sponsored a concert in Uganda by “murder music” singer Beenie Man who encourages the killing of lesbians and gay men.
At his Ugandan concert on Saturday 5 December, Beenie Man sang the song, Mi Nah Wallah, which includes a call to cut the throats of gay people.
Uganda is notorious for homophobic violence and is currently considering introducing the death penalty for “aggravated” homosexuality and for “serial (gay) offenders.”
Following protests, Pepsi expressed regret over their sponsorship of Beenie Man. In a statement to Change.org PepsiCo said:
“We are appalled by the performer’s lyrics and find them repugnant. Our bottling partner in Uganda was not aware of the performer’s views and never would have sponsored the concert with this knowledge…Moving forward, we will work closely with our bottling partners to be more vigilant about the events associated with our brands.”
Peter Tatchell of London LGBT rights group OutRage! said: “We want to thank GLAAD and Change.org for their swift and effective lobbying of PepsiCo. Their efforts got a positive result. PepisiCo will be more careful in future.”
Earlier, David Allison of OutRage! wrote to PepsiCo:
“We are shocked to learn that not only are you sponsoring the appearance of Beenie Man, the Jamaican dancehall music performer, but compounding the offence by sponsoring him in Uganda…Uganda’s government is currently proposing legislation calling for the imprisonment and execution of gay people.
“Backing a concert that includes a notorious homophobe in a country launching draconian legislation against people simply because of their sexual orientation is a singularly inept, not to say immoral….We ask that you withdraw your sponsorship and re-affirm your support for human rights,” wrote Mr Allison.
Beenie Man has a long history of inciting the murder of LGBT people.
His hit tune, Bad Man Chi Chi Man (Bad Man, Queer Man), instructs listeners to kill gay DJs and boasts that people would gladly go to jail for killing a queer:
In another song, Damn, he sings: “I’m dreaming of a new Jamaica, come to execute all the queers”.
Han Up Deh includes the lyrics: “Hang lesbians with a long piece of rope.”
Beenie Man is also notorious for the track, Batty Man Fi Dead (Queers Must Be killed):
“All faggots must be killed! If you f*ck ass, then you get copper and lead [bullets].”

“The King of Dancehall stuck a sword of words into gay people through singing and talking. “In my family, we don’t have any gay person but if you’re gay, my brother that’s not my fault,” he said as he performed his song Mi Nah Wallah, in which he says he would like to cut the throats of all gay men. George Bush and Bin Laden were also at the receiving end of the Jamaican’s wrath calling on the audience to say “murderer” as he sang about the pair’s warfare.”

American Family Association’s PepsiCo Boycott

PepsiCo Inc. (PEP) is the latest Fortune 500 company to arouse the anger of the ultra-conservative American Family Association (AFA) over its support of gay rights.
AFA, which was founded by Christian activist Rev. Donald Wildmon, objects to the Purchase, New York-based company donating $1 million to well-known gay rights groups, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) and Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG), “to promote the homosexual lifestyle in the workplace,” according to AFA’s website. Spokespersons for the HRC and PLFAG could not immediately be reached for comment.
The organization denies that it “hates” homosexuals. “It is that love that motivates us to expose the misrepresentation of the radical homosexual agenda and stop its spread though our culture,” the group said. Gay people who have long fought AFA would beg to differ.

Anti-Gay AFA Has Their Panties in a Wad Again

Don’t they ever stop with their hate, intolerance and bigotry…all in the name of Christianity? Now the American Family Association, Donald Wildmon’s anti-gay, anti-anything that’s not white, Christian and scared of them group has begun harassing the folks at PepsiCo. This time because of an ad that has aired in the UK which they claim promotes the Gay Agenda.
Pepsi however didn’t seem to concerned as Wildmon stated their response to his concerns were “condescending”.
Of course the AFA has launched a boycott of the Pepsi company, but it doesn’t appear to have made an impact.
Way to go Pepsi! The real Gay Agenda loves you!

PepsiCo has pushed aside boycott threats from Donald E. Wildmon’s hate and bigotry group, the AFA. and have decided to donate $500,000 to a PLFAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays). The money donated to PFLAG will be used to develop and support the Straight for Equality program. The donation allow an expansion of workplace training, support chapter-based projects and fund the creation of new Straight for Equality outreach tools.
According to Jody M. Huckaby, executive directory of PFLAG, “PepsiCo has provided PFLAG with an enormous gift, and an unparalleled opportunity, to demonstrate the power we have to create change, no matter where we are, or who we are. Because of the Foundation’s generosity and commitment, we now have the resources to produce materials for our chapters to use in their communities, and to create critically important conversations, in every corner of our country.”
PFLAG launched the Straight for Equality program, which is designed to reach the straight ally who doesn’t necessarily have a family connection in the traditional PFLAG sense back in October 2007. The program’s focus is to reach new potential allies who share PFLAG’s commitment to equality for all.
“The challenge wasn’t just figuring out how to talk to these potential supporters,” said PFLAG national president John Cepek. He added, “It was about finding the place where, on a national level, we could get the conversation started, and keep up the momentum moving forward.”
The PepsiCo Foundation gift, the company said, is intended to continue building and implementing the unique Straight for Equality approach to relationship building.
“We are delighted to continue our partnership with PFLAG,” stated Jacqueline Millan, Director of PepsiCo Corporate Contributions.
“The Straight for Equality in the Workplace training program is unique in that it is promoting the necessary message of inclusion to untapped groups within the local community, and that is a crucial step towards building a healthy working environment.”
