Another Female Gov Prays Away the Gay

September 18, 2009 by James Hipps · 6 Comments

We all remember the funny, yet not so funny ex-governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin, who thought that Jesus rode dinosaurs and you could “pray away the gay”.

Well, it looks like this time, yet another religious fanatic governor has actually succeeded in praying away the gay…or perhaps is playing God.

According to various reports, Arizona’s Governor, Jan Brewer stated on Wednesday that she believes,

“God has placed me in this powerful position as Arizona’s governor.”

Brewer has also been vocal and detailed about how she relies on her faith and in prayer to deal with many of the issues she faces as the state’s chief executive, stating there are times during staff meetings they will pray together about an issue.

According to Brewer:

“And we stop, and we take that time, and we pray about it, and it does make a difference.”

So what are the issue they pray about and what difference has it made? Well, recalling benefits for same-sex partners of state employees is one.

According to the Arizona Daily Star:

“A bill signed by Gov. Jan Brewer redefined a ‘dependent,’ canceling the rule change made by Gov. Janet Napolitano that allowed domestic partners to receive benefits. Also eliminated are children of domestic partners, full-time students ages 23-24 and disabled adult dependents. The legislation is in legal review. About 800 state employees are affected, according to the state’s administration department.”

So see, maybe Sarah Palin was right…perhaps you can ‘pray away the gay’, or at least if you have the power, you can make it go away!

Anti-Gay Teen Boot Camp Asks Bush for $500,000

January 3, 2009 by James Hipps · 2 Comments

A faith-based program, backed by George W. Bush, is seeking half a million dollars to continue it’s work.  Minnesota Teen Challege, a Pentecostal drug and alcohol abuse treatment program, claims to help teenagers overcome dependency by recruiting youngsters into the Assemblies of God ministry.  They claim teens can be cured of their addiction through endoctrination into the church.  According to the group, “addiction is a sin, NOT a disease!”

The tax-free evangelical program, who again is seeking $500,000.00 of tax dollars, works closely with  Exodus International, the self proclaimed ex-gay therapy group that believes you can “pray away the gay.”

The Official Teen Challenge Student Handbook instructs students to “conduct themselves in a manner pleasing to God” and strictly forbids any “homosexual behavior”, as being gay, along with addiction, is a sin. Teen Challenge also speaks out against anyone who celebrates Halloween.  The group claims, “Halloween is a day set up totally for Satan.  The more people who go out dressed as demons, ghost, witches and goblins, the more glory Satan receives.”

Those youths who are entered into the program, but won’t adhere to it, are deprived food until they come around.

And George W. Bush thinks this is a good use of your tax dollars!

Christians on the Attack with Ex-Gay Literature

According to a post on metroweekly.com:

”Donations should not be at the expense of minority populations or make the reader feel inferior…. These books were not research based. There were not facts to back it up.”

Susan Thornley, coordinator of library information services for Fairfax County, VA speaking by phone with WAMU. A group of Christian student protesters are claiming censorship and a violation of personal beliefs because, they claim, that they submitted ”reviews” of several ”pray away the gay” books to Fairfax County public school systems but were rejected by librarians. However, Thornley says the alleged reviews were taken either from church newletters or written by the ex-gay books’ authors themselves. And she added that there were already book on the libraries shelves that presented a variety of views on homosexulaity.

McBush Picks Up Democratic “Change”

September 10, 2008 by James Hipps · Leave a Comment

If you search the Wikipedia page on John McCain’s 2000 presidential campaign, the word “change” doesn’t appear a single time (as of Sept. 9 … by the time you read this, that may have been, um, changed).

For the man who wrote Character is Destiny, questions like why he went from wanting Joe Lieberman (a pro-choice, pro-gay rights rogue Democrat who got an “F” on his NRA report card) to picking Palin (a rifle-wielding, pray-out-the-gay, pro-life-in-cases-of-rape-and-incest conservative’s conservative) within a matter of days may weigh more heavily after November.

Maybe that’s what he means when he says he’s now the candidate of change; that those days of watching the other guys have all the fun are gone and that having failed to beat them, he’s now joined them.
