Right Wing Ostriches Bury Their Heads in the Sand

On NPR aired a segment this morning on George and Laura Bush’s return to “normalcy” after leaving The White House in less than a week. They have purchased a 8500 square foot home in the Preston Hollow neighborhood in Dallas, Texas. The new hood will become a gated community as secret service will be on watch 24/7. The community is home for many prominent and wealthy Texans including Ross Perot, Dallas mayor Tom Leppert, Mark Cuban – owner of the Dallas Mavericks, former Dallas Cowboy Roger Staubach and billionaire T. Boone Pickens.
Now it doesn’t surprise me that the Bush’s are moving into a neighborhood where the old money of Texas lies, nor does it surprise me they paid $3 million for a house with an estimated value fo $2 million. However, I do find the neighbor’s responses a little…well, naive, to say the least. Perhaps it’s just they are thrilled they will now have extra protection through the U.S. Secret Service, but the largely Republican neighborhood has gone to great lengths to make sure the Bush’s feel welcome in their new home. Community residents have had yard signs printed up saying “Welcome Home George and Laura”. They also seem to think that George Bush was a “great” president.
This is the point I am trying to make. The residents of Preston Hollow have collectively backed George W. Bush over the last 8 years and stated “they are extremely proud” of George and he has done a “fantastic Job as president”. Instead of facing the realities of what the last 8 years has done to the economy and the reputation of this nation, these multi-million and billionaires content that “George has had some difficult decisions to make, but has always seemed to make the right ones.” What? HEEEELLLLLO?
George W. Bush has managed to demolish the wall of separation between church and state. He has entered us into a war that never should have been entered. He has ruined the once great economy of this nation. He has taken the surplus that Bill Clinton left this nation with and turned it into a colossal deficit, and he has made those countries who didn’t like America, hate America, and have turned many of our allies into foes. What good has come out the the Bush years? Well, let’s ask those on the Right. Faith-based funding for “ex-gay” and “anti-gay” religious groups. Tax cuts for the richest 1% of the nation. I guess if I were someone from the Right, I may be inclined to bury my head in the sand as well. After all, you don’t have to see the destruction if you keep your head in the dark!
