Right-Wing Media Lies: McCain Is Not Catching Up

November 3, 2008 by James Hipps · Leave a Comment

The sore loser Republicans always have to blame the so-called liberal media for everything. However, the media has proven to show a right-wing bias as they keep distorting the truth in favor of the GOP.

Media Matters reports on the fallacy of the McCain camp making gains on Obama in battleground states. While Obama is ahead, take his word and do not get arrogant or complacent over the poll leads, and fight all the way to election day. Also be very careful of the fraudulent tactics of the right-wingers.

The Real Right Wing Threat to America

October 28, 2008 by Gay Agenda News Team · Leave a Comment

From opednews.com:

If Obama is elected, expect the religious right to stir the radical conservatives up continually. Whether the country will see a replay of Ruby Ridge is total speculation, but it is possible. If Proposition 8 in California is defeated, that will give the radicals even more cause and reason to further the revolution talk. Proposition 8 is an initiative that would change the California Constitution to define a marriage as being between a man and woman, thus overturning a recent State Supreme Court decision allowing gays to marry.

How McCain Shed Pariah Status Among Evangelicals

October 25, 2008 by James Hipps · Leave a Comment

From RightWingWatch.org.

That is the title of this good piece by NPR’s Barbara Bradley Hagerty on how John McCain managed to go from reviled enemy of the Religious Right to panderer extraordinaire in just eight years.

Hagerty recounts who McCain openly attacked the Right with his “agents of intolerance” remark back in 2000 and how despite Gary Bauer’s efforts to help him adjust the tone and direction of the attack, there was no confusion on the part of Religious Right leaders regarding what he meant:

But then McCain finally got his act together, started courting them, saying the things they wanted to hear, and finally gave them the VP nominee they had been dreaming of.

In May, McCain began to court the evangelical leaders he had once disdained, with the help of Bauer, his friend and religious insider. All summer, McCain met privately with leaders and stressed his credentials that he is strongly pro-life, anti-same-sex marriage, a religious conservative by record if not by countenance.

Debunking the Christian Right: Church & State

October 13, 2008 by James Hipps · Leave a Comment

While I realize that the Christian right isn’t usually lauded for its respect of other’s rights, it would be extremely short-sided of them to assume that a result like the ones described on this site wouldn’t work against them eventually. As zealous as the Christian right can be, surely they do not expect there to be no dissent amongst themselves, do they?

In the meantime I will continue to hope for the best and prepare for the worst. I urge fundamentalists of all flavors to make their plans for world domination long-term plans rather than short-term and ultimately self-destructive power-grabs. Unless it is actually the apocalypse (i.e. Jesus is back with his sword of fire) please try to keep our Judicial branch intact. It protects your rights too.

McCain’s Opposition to the GLBT Community

August 18, 2008 by James Hipps · 1 Comment

Obviously, different people can have different views on the priority to give to gay civil rights and anti-discrimination protection. To a gay couple, who want to get married and have or adopt children, these things are more of a priority than someone who’s OK with the status quo.

However, what’s strange is how little the folk supporting McCain know about the truth of his anti-gay record. He’s a sophisticated man and I suspect, as some people have pointed out, that he probably really doesn’t care enough about gays to have an interest one way or the other. But that doesn’t stop him repeatedly taking anti-gay positions for political advantage.

This Human Right Campaign Report provides a good summary:

The highlights:

* McCain opposes equality for same-sex couples:
o He’s left the door open to supporting a Federal Constitutional Amendment bannning gay marriage.
o He’s actively supported State bans on same-sex marriage and civil unions.
o He supported the Defense of Marriage Act, which, among other things, discriminates against same-sex couples getting Federal employee benefits.
o He opposes adoption by same-sex couples.
* McCain opposes the protection of GLBT Americans in the workplace.
* He also opposes protecting GLBT Americans from hate crimes.
* He’s against repealing the military’s discriminatory Don’t-Ask-Don’t-Tell policy.
* He’s supported discriminatory HIV/AIDS policies.
* McCain also advocates the nomination of ultra-conservative anti-gay judges.
* He’s out of touch with gays and lesbians:
o He’s said he can spot them by the way the act.
o Doesn’t know whether condoms can help prevent infection.
o Doesn’t know what GLBT stands for.
* McCain gets his endorsements from anti-gay activists for a reason.
