RNC Sbusidizes Abortions for 18 Years & Counting

November 13, 2009 by Gay Agenda News Team · Leave a Comment

From The Washington Monthly:

The debate over financing of abortions — the basis for the offensive Stupak amendment — is all about money being fungible. Amy Sullivan explained the problem nicely recently: “The problem, they say, is that if any insurance plan that covers abortion is allowed to participate in a public exchange, then premiums paid to that plan in the form of taxpayer-funded subsidies help support that abortion coverage even if individual abortion procedures are paid for out of a separate pool of privately-paid premium dollars.”

But applying this argument can prove problematic. Focus on the Family, for example, one of the nation’s largest religious right organizations and a fierce opponent of abortion rights, has health insurance for its employees through a company that covers “abortion services.” The far-right outfit, by its own standards, indirectly subsidizes abortions.

Apparently, the Republican National Committee has the same problem. Politico reported yesterday afternoon that the RNC — whose platform calls abortion “a fundamental assault on innocent human life” — gets insurance through Cigna with a plan that covers elective abortion. The Republicans’ health care package has been in place since 1991 — thanks, Lee Atwater — meaning that, by the party’s own argument, it has been indirectly subsidizing abortions for 18 years.

Michael Steele is Still Trying to Find His Way

March 12, 2009 by James Hipps · Leave a Comment

Here is a person who recently said the GOP would be “crazy” to backslide on it’s moral values and advocate for marriage equality. Yet, in an recent interview with GQ, the RNC Chair had this to say when asked if homosexuality was a choice:

Oh, no. I don’t think I’ve ever really subscribed to that view, that you can turn it on and off like a water tap. Um, you know, I think that there’s a whole lot that goes into the makeup of an individual that, uh, you just can’t simply say, oh, like, “Tomorrow morning I’m gonna stop being gay.” It’s like saying, “Tomorrow morning I’m gonna stop being black.”

Steele maintains his opposition to same sex marriage, but believes same-sex couples should be afforded some rights.  Now there is progress folks!  The leader of the GOP saying we deserve “some” rights.  Being that he made the comparison between being gay and being Black, I wonder if he feels Black people should only be entitled to some rights?   Oh those silly Republicans!

Is the Religious Right Loosing Stock in the GOP?

February 4, 2009 by James Hipps · Leave a Comment

Desperate times lead to desperate measures. First the GOP announce the lipstick wearing Caribou Killer as the running mate of John McCain as he was steadily loosing ground in the past election. This was somewhat of a comfort for the Religious Right however, as they saw someone step up to the plate who opposed abortion, even in cases of incest and rape. They saw a woman who believed they could “pray away the gay”, as we all know, the LGBT community is going to be the demise of this nation. Here was a woman who believes that conservative religion has a very clear place in the political scheme of this country and she was their savior.

Of course Palin’s inexperience, along with McCain’s out-of-touch mentality lost them the election and now a man who believes in choice and equality was in office. Many anti-gay conservatives considered this to be “the day the music died”. Obama even put a Civil Rights page on the White House website that included rights for the LGBT community. The devil has surfaced!

So, members of the GOP, who more than likely lost a great deal of support due to being bought and owned by the Religious Right during the Bush administration, found themselves floundering like a fish out of water as well.

Then came then yet another act of desperation. The appointment of the new Republican National Committee chairman, Michael Steele. This guy is suppose to be the savior of the GOP. He says he’s going to make the party more inclusive for Republican voters and candidates with more moderate views, including those who favor LGBT equality and abortion. Poor guy, just like Palin, I don’t think he realizes he’s just being used as bait by the GOP, again, desperate measures for desperate times.

His appointment has the Religious Right feeling even more disenfranchised. A republican who supports equality for homosexuals and a woman’s right to choose? Oh my, the devil has taken hold of the earth…or is he just a politician in disguise?

The Religious Right shouldn’t give up so quickly. Even though Steele “says” he supports equality, he also supports a U.S. Constitutional Amendment that would ban same-sex marriage. So even though he believes in equality, which has the oxy-morons over at the Log Cabin Republicans jumping for joy, that equality is only skin deep. When you get to the heart of the matter, Steele supports equality, as long as we are to remain unequal.

It looks like for now, the infighting in the GOP will continue. The Religious Right will continue to gasp for air as they struggle to keep their heads above water, and the Republicans now have a conservative black man to lead them, which is living proof they aren’t racist.

And the Next Anti-Gay Leader of the Republican Party Is…

January 25, 2009 by Gay Agenda News Team · Leave a Comment

Republicans are getting ready to pick their poison elect the next chair of their party, with six candidates vying to head the Republican National Committee. And for a party that’s recently been talking about increasing their reputation when it comes to inclusion, their next leader is set to continue a platform of anti-LGBT rights. Six candidates, six people who’d rather see LGBT citizens denied equal rights.

Not so Shocking, Palin is Anti-Gay, Read Her Words

I ran across this site that has several quotes from Caribou Barbie on the subject of gay rights.  Here is one of them;

Asked if she would support a Constitutional amendment to overturn the Alaska Supreme Court decision mandating public employers to provide benefits equivalent to same-sex couples, Sarah Palin responded “yes.”

And this is just the tip of the Alaskan Iceberg.
