Wanda Sykes Comes OUT and Comes Out Strong

Actress and comedian Wanda Sykes has come out as a lesbian at one of the many No on H8 protest that she has attended. She also revealed she has been married to her partner for several years and felt that the voting for Prop. 8 to pass was an outrage. As she states in the video below, “Let’s go get out damn equal rights”.

Duff & Sykes Won’t Say “That’s So Gay”

Advertisers rake in and simply love it when their slogans become part of everyday conversations. It’s well known that every time we say, “just do it,” “got milk?” “where’s the beef,”  etc. the guy (or gal) who came up with these catch phrases hears a little “cha-ching”.

Now, the Advertising Council, the directors and coordinators of public service campaigns is taking this in an entirely new direction. Rather than try to get a catch phrase ingrained in our head, the Ad Council is trying to remove an offensive phrase from our everyday language.

The phrase they are trying to eradicate is “THAT’S SO GAY.” The organization is running a pro-bono campaign in attempts to remove this phrase from our language. The target market of the campaign are teens, who are typically the widest users the phrase.

Wanda Sykes - Out and Proud Lesbian?

What an incredible week: On Sunday, Dallas celebrated 25 years of Pride; on Monday night, Lindsay Lohan confirmed that she’s dating Samantha Ronson; and on Tuesday afternoon, Clay Aiken announced he’s an openly gay dad.

Earlier on Tuesday afternoon, comedian Wanda Sykes called the Dallas Voice offices to herald her Friday night gig at Southern Methodist University’s McFarlin Auditorium.

Earlier this summer, Sykes stopped in Dallas on the True Colors tour. Joan Jett was on the same tour. I know Jett has never revealed whether or not she’s lesbian. In fact, Dallas Voice recently had to print a retraction because we once described Jett as “queer.”
